The babies of my dwarf pineapple got their own pots and my monstera minima has been potted together with some pothos and they got a nice, long disco stick.

Ever wonder what a growing pineapple looks like? They’re actually giant bromeliads! This pineapple (Ananas comosus) was obviously grown in a greenhouse, but they’re usually grown in fields in tropical areas. 

Pineapples are native to South America, and because of their preferred climate conditions,were extremely difficult to grow in Europe for a long time. They were a symbol of wealth and hospitality, as they were used by the ultrawealthy as decorations, which led to their incorporation into stonework. The fibers of pineapple leaves have also been used to make textiles, most notably in the Philippines.

Plants will always amaze me. A few years ago, I planted a store bought pineapple top. It grew wonderfully and would give me an offshoot (a sucker) every single season. Well this year after winter, the mother plant was no longer really a plant itself, rather than just two suckers. Well, I decided to break one of them off back in March to root in soil. I made the mistake of trying to pull off a sucker that was already rooted in the pot, so I ended up pulling off the “mother plant” along the other sucker. I separated the two and put the bare mother plant in soil too in the hopes that it would continue to grow. A couple months went by and nothing grew, it just sat there in the pot and started to mold. I eventually gave up and threw it in a pile of leaves. Fast forward to today, I was doing my round in the garden and happen to see the seemingly dead piece of pineapple plant laying in that pile of leaves. I decided to pick it up just because, and when I looked at the other side, I saw something so beautiful. It was a little baby pineapple plant. It’s rained nearly every single day for the past month and I’m sure that’s what saved it in our 90+ degree weather. I should have known it would survive, it just takes time and patience. Welcome back to the family
