Ancyn quirked a brow from her seat, chewing her forkful of breakfast omelet at Alex’s question. “Pretty heavy questions morning questions,” she chuckled afterswallowing. She set her fork down, sitting back in her chair as she brushedtoast crumbs from her fingers to her then empty plate. Shrugging a shoulder andpulling a thigh to her stomach, knee up and foot for the edge of her seat, sheconsidered. “Dunno,” she answered honestly, resting her chin on her knee.“Think…th’early days of Blackstone. Was wonderfully young ‘nd beautifullystupid, yeah? Coin was good: ‘f I felt like scouting Maelstorm, I went t’Maelstorm.Felt like going t’ th’Straights, I went t’ th’Straights—even ‘f 't was suicideback then.” She laughed, folding her hands around her ankle. “Kinda miss it.”She frowned, but only comically so. “Could probably stand t’forget th’wholeCommander Conn thing happened. Can’t believe he told me what t’do at one point.…or tried.” She shook her head with a confused smile. “’d make a terrible soldier.”
