I’m not at all surprised when people see books or comics or really any media that’s related to/about fangirls and go “EWWW HOW CRINGEY HOW AWFUL UGGGHHHH THIS THING IS TERRIBLE THIS IS THE WOOOOORRRRRSSSSTTTT BLECHHH!!” because that’s pretty much the same reaction people have to girls being passionate or excited about literally anything in real life as well.
Of course these people see a story about a young tween or teen girl who writes fanfic or loves to cosplay or is in fandom or is just excited about something and they gag at it. If a girl is a teenager and in any kind of geekish fandom, she’s basically GUARANTEED to be ridiculed and dubbed “cringey” by the world. It literally doesn’t matter how she acts or what she says. Naturally, any story that is written for these girls is deemed just as bad.
And I’m not saying that teen girls or fangirls are exempt from criticism or being called out on their bs. We SHOULD let them know about the dangers of objectifying and fetishizing people and other things like that. I guess I’m just tired of seeing people yell down ANYTHING that is made for fangirls or nerdy women with “EWW CRINGE!!!”
