Sometimes, I think about how people don’t think about the politics of whatever they’re consuming or take it at face value and I shudder.

Or worse, whenever people say, “it’s not that deep.”

It is.

Artists whether intentional or not are reflections of their circumstances. That’s why whenever I hear people say, “You can separate the art from the artist” I cringe.

You can’t do that when their body of work is contingent on carving up pieces of their lived experiences— only to be consumed and consequently shit out by people who don’t care enough to fucking digest that there might be a deeper reason.
