I have a cyborg character who's basically a brain in a mechanical body who gets trapped underwater in a small space for 30 years but is kept alive by his mechanical systems, and afterward is deathly afraid of small spaces. (And being underwater.) When he gets trapped in a small room of a sinking ship, he just about loses it.
