This Beijing Life: Month 6
This Beijing Life: Month 6
Since I’ll be moving to Beijing for the next two years, I figured it would be fun to do monthly recap posts talking about the highlights and challenges of my time in China’s bustling capital (or wherever I may be that month.) I’ve noticed that the more I travel and the busier I become, the more impossible it becomes to keep up with my travels in real-time. Well, never fear monthly recap posts are…

My Sister's Getting Married!!!
AHH! Ashley called me the other day in class with the news of Shaun's proposal! I am so unbelievably happy for her! AND I get to be her Maid of Honor! :) That was definitely the biggest news during the 2 weeks or so since I last updated you. In other news, my parents sent me another package full of HOMEMADE COOKIES! Three. Whole. Flavors. Man, they're so good. Also, I have two new Chinese friends! I met them in the cafe where they work (on my favorite street in Beijing), when I went to look at the menu to check prices on coffee. Next thing I know, I'm immediately sat in a chair, brought water, and looking across the table at the owner talking to me in English. Needless to say, I ended up staying for coffee and chatting with the owner for a little bit. I unfortunately had homework to do, so they left me alone for a little bit to do that. Then out of nowhere, I look up from my books and see the waitress sitting across the table looking at me! Then she proceeded to tell me about herself and help me with my homework. Turns out, both girls are English majors so I can talk with them very easily. I had to leave to meet up with Devon but before I left, the owner got her camera and took a photo of the waitress and me sitting at our table. Of course, I also handed her my camera to get one for me. Then I left with the waitress's phone number hearing them telling me to "come back again" over and over. Here's the thing: the waitress's English name is Taco. Taco! I really hope someone didn't name her that as a joke... Yesterday and today were midterm days so this whole week has been filled with endless books, cups of coffee, snacks, and bubugao-ing. The worst test out of the four I took was definitely the last one - my grammar class. It was seriously impossible to study for because we were tested on everything we have learned in class up until today, without a study guide. Then we got the test and I didn't even recognize half of the characters on it! So I eventually had to leave about 1/4 of the test blank because I could't even read the questions. It was a terrible morning. But now I'm done with tests, I have no homework, and no group activities this weekend! Tonight Erik, Devon, and I will be celebrating with The Godfather and these awesome Grapefruit Vodka sodas (75 cents a can!).
