Welcome to History 207!

Greetings History 207 Students (and other assorted Beatlemaniacs)!

Prof Hunt here! Welcome to my Beatles Blog for History 207: The Beatles and the Sixties (Fall Term 2025). I can’t tell you how pleased I am that you’ll be able to join me this term for this colourful, kaleidoscopic exploration of The Beatles and the times in which they made their music, the 1960s.

Please bookmark the Beatles Blog, or – if you happen to be on Tumblr – you can follow the Blog for regular updates. I’ll be adding stuff to it multiple times per week. Many of the Blog Posts will consist of video footage, but I will also be adding images, links to articles and websites, and more recent Beatles news stories, to show that the Fab Four are still making history.

Also, I will be adding posts in the coming weeks about the era in which The Beatles made their music – the late 1950s and the 1960s. After all, this is not just a course on The Beatles. It is also a history of their times – and what eventful times they were!

Scanning the headlines today, I realize that it may seem like we’re living through trying times. Climate change, injustices, racism, antisemitism, polarization, inflation, economic uncertainty, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and a host of other social ills, can all combine to darken our view of the not-too-distant horizon, And yet, the past always has so much to teach us. And every time I teach the history of The Beatles, I get something new out of it, that helps illuminate the path ahead, and solidifies my faith in a better future ahead. I hope their lessons reach across the decades in a similar way to you.

To quote The Lads from Liverpool: “Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!”
