I'm kinda sad that I can't see any lucky romance sences anywhere, YT has both the girls up for a week now, but no lucky. :( if you're gonna romance him can you post stuff

This is so late anon I’m sorry ! But it looks like this has changed and there is much more content about Lucky’s romance in the tags as people are progressing through the game,, I’ve also posted the epilogue I got for him x (somewhat spoilery, it’s a bit vague).

But yeah he doesn’t seem to be getting as much attention as Niesha and Amelia anywhere outside of tumblr.

Which is a shame because how his story/romance plays out and ties into the main narrative is so good -

I can talk about it though? Can I talk about it? It gave me feelings and I’m not used to it so let me ruminate on all of this

I’ll start with a disclaimer: I’ve never much cared about romances options in games; I’ve never been particularly invested in them or …. understood the interest, I guess. So I wasn’t exactly going into The Technomancer expecting to be very moved by any of them. The characters and their stories, maybe. But the romances? Not so much.

But now - I honestly can’t imagine choosing a romance that isn’t Andrew. And I feel bad saying that, especially because I know barely anything about Niesha’s or Amelia’s, but I just feel that choosing either of them over Andrew will feel,,, not right.

I’m still kind of reeling about how inescapably linked Andrew and Zach are, so much more so than any other characters in the game. There is no getting around the fact that they always have and always will be connected in some way; they will always share something, no matter how you steer their relationship.

They were kids together, learning technomancy (even if the memories need some prompting, at least on Zach’s part), staying on the outside and not moving within circles but still being aware of the other. Zach is permanently marked by Andrew - there is physical proof that they’ve met before, that they have history. Usually in games we’re just expected to take it at someone’s word that the PC has met a character previously or known then for a while (like with Scott), with varying degrees of success. Never is a character given such ….. special treatment as to be personally responsible for something that is unchangeable (every face in the CC has the scars, you can’t get rid of them) and directly affects the PC.

This wasn’t necessary; from what I can tell, the other two romanceable characters aren’t like that, none of the companions are. Even Sean, who very clearly means a lot to Zach, doesn’t have this level of involvement with Zach’s story and design.

In my epilogue Andrew stays with Zach and they both teach new recruits. And the way it’s written looks to be separate from the romance related text - I haven’t explored all the variables yet (like what happens if Zach isn’t Grand Master) but it looks like Andrew will stick with Zach more often than not, romance or not.

It’s definitely out of the ordinary for an M/M option to be given this much ….. meaning. Meaning that remains whether or not he is romanced. So with the apparent disparity between his and the two ladies’ romances, I’m wondering how his came about. Was he originally conceived with being a romance in mind? Was his story tailored for maximum impact when taking the romance path (though their friendship path is no less meaningful)? Was he being written as he is now and someone realised how close he and Zach would be and how easily him being a romance would work, how organic it would feel? Was his story altered to make them closer after it would be decided that he would be an option?

So many possibilities.

And as @sonntamz pointed out, Andrew didn’t even exist up until a certain point in development, after group shots had already been shown without him there. So maybe he was built from the ground up with the intention of having this intrinsic connection with Zach. And if that connection really is intended to be as deep as I’ve been rambling about, how refreshing is it that it’s an M/M option~

Because the best part is this doesn’t come at a cost to their individual characters; their friendship is still equal to the romance, they’re still able to exist in their own right despite all of this. Which is the best way to portray any type of relationship imo

This might be down to a lack of content, especially the romance content – but it works. The romance doesn’t overshadow what they were before taking that option, it doesn’t lessen their past as technomancy students together or the outcomes of it, or their building friendship,,, it’s just more layers.

I really don’t want to be dismissive of Amelia’s and Niesha’s romance paths since I haven’t looked too deeply into them and I don’t feel I can really compare them. But Andrew’s just feels so — organic. It has such depth and a solid, existing connection before romance enters the picture. When the achievements were leaked I had a feeling the title was a bit ambitious but,,, I mean, I can see now why his achievement is called ‘soulmate’.

Okay I know I said I wasn’t going to post anything else about The Technomancer until I’d finished but I lied because I just needed to get this out -

spoilers for Lucky’s backstory and personal quests

It would have been so easy to just have Zach’s scars as that token feature that male protagonists frequently have to show that they’re tough and have lived before the story starts-- it would have been so easy to leave it unexplained and up for the player to fill in the blanks as they choose,,,

but having Lucky be responsible for them is so much better holy shit. I barely even paid attention to the fact that all of the CC faces have the same scarring; I didn’t give it much thought because scars are used so freely in games. But then Lucky just??? fucking drops it in a convo like, oh yeah that time I went over the edge and electrocuted everyone then had my arm chopped off, that’s probably where those scars are from huh?

Also his initiation was just -- so nice. Going through the completely deserted dome with that soft music and no combat, just the two of them talking about Zach’s past and Andrew’s future,,
