Who took over as England cricket captain following the resignation of Kevin Pietersen in 2008?
Andrew Strauss was appointed the captain of the England cricket team for the 2008–09 tour of the West Indies following Kevin Pietersen's resignation. Pietersen resigned following a dispute with the England coach Peter Moores, who was sacked the same day.
Sir Andrew John Strauss (born 1977) was an English cricket player for Middlesex and the England national team. He made his first-class debut in 1998 and rose to fame when he replaced an injured Michael Vaughan during a Test match against New Zealand in 2004. In 2009, Strauss captained the England team to a 2-1 victory in the 2009 Ashes. This was the first time England had won an Ashes Test at Lord's Cricket Ground, London, in 75 years.
Strauss retired from professional cricket on 29th August 2012. At that point, he was the second-most successful captain of England in terms of wins. As a result of his services to English cricket, Strauss was appointed a Knight Bachelor in Theresa May's resignation honours on 10th September 2019.
Following his resignation, Strauss became the director of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). He resigned from the position in 2018 while his wife was undergoing treatment for lung cancer. Sadly, she passed away in December of that year.
