What a trip to be published in Interview (as in, the esteemed Andy Warhol’s Interview magazine, which celebrated its 55th anniversary last year). Believe me, as a teenager, I used to hungrily devour issues of Interview and the original incarnations of Details and Paper magazines every month! Read my ultra-juicy interview with author Jeff Copeland about his new book Love You Madly, Holly Woodlawn: A Walk on the Wild Side with Andy Warhol’s Most Fabulous Superstar (published this month by Feral House!). Copeland first met Woodlawn in 1989, co-wrote her rollicking 1991 memoirs A Low Life in High Heels and now – almost a decade after her death in December 2015 – reflects on their stormy friendship in Love You Madly. Out NOW via Feral House: Love You Madly, Holly Woodlawn, author Jeff Copeland’s juicy account of his tempestuous friendship with the outrageous and charismatic sewer-mouthed Puerto Rican-born Warhol superstar, cabaret chanteuse and transgender icon mythologized in the classic 1972 Lou Reed song “Walk on the Wild Side” ("Holly came from Miami F-L-A / Hitchhiked her way across the USA / Plucked her eyebrows on the way / Shaved her legs and then he was a she ...").
