So yesterday and-you-will-like-it wanted Cobert anons. I never usually write these kind of things really but I thought I would. I have no idea where I was going with this when I wrote it so I'm leaving it as is.
"Oh, I'm so excited," Cora grinned as she floated past Robert, a vase of flowers in her hand.
Robert turned to look back through the doorway to his wife who placed the vase on a table by the windows. She moved the flowers until they looked just right then gave them a once over.
"There," she said. "They look much better over here, don't you think?"
"Whatever you say, my love," Robert replied.
Cora attempted to pout at him but she couldn't. Her children were coming home. Robert clasped her hand in his before she could rush out the door again.
"You know what? I think they look wonderful."
Cora then had the ability to pout but it soon vanished for her graceful smile once more.
"And would you like to know what I also think? I think you are working too hard, what do you think we have servants for?"
"Oh, I know, but I just feel so terrible for them working on a day like this...shall we give them the day off, Robert?"
"What about dinner tonight?"
"I'm sure they've got something prepared...and besides I'm sure we'll all be fine without a three course meal..."
Robert brought Cora's hand to his lips and planted a soft kiss before dropping it to walk to Carson who had been replacing the decanters.
"Tell everyone they can all have a break after they've done their duties."
"I am sure they will be very grateful. Thank you, m'lord."
"It's not me you need to thank," Robert looked to Cora.
Carson nodded and left at once, grumbling with each step. Everyone downstairs would be thrilled, but not so much him. What's a day without work? Cora informed her husband that she was going outside to check on the luncheon. The sun was shining brightly, the day was warm with cooling wind blowing gently through. It was perfect. Cora had decided it would be best if they ate outside, it would waste the day to be hauled up in the abbey.
Outside the maids were putting the finishing touches down, the footmen setting the places. There was a table and a picnic blanket beside, the children would prefer to sit away from the adults and formalities. Cora smiled at Mary who had just helped place the blanket on the ground.
Thomas came running up to inform the staff outside that they had been granted time off, earning Cora a range of thanks. Carson soon appeared to inform Cora that her guests were arriving and the staff dropped their things and swarmed to the front of the abbey. They took their places while Cora went to stand by Robert and Isis.
She wrapped an arm around his. Coming down the driveway were three cars, one behind the other.
"My babies are coming home," she whispered.
Robert smiled down at her and in turn she looked up, he planted a kiss upon her lips then looked back to the cars. They were almost there.
