La Virgen
La Virgen is one of the most influential figures in Mexican culture. I could find an image of her in most places we went to. However, I never captured a photo except for this one time in the Brady museum. I remember when we walked by her statue in front of a church and were told how on December 12 the city goes all out to celebrate her. It brought me back to my childhood, I thought of how we never really made a big deal out of Santa Clause on Christmas, we celebrated Los Reyes on January 5 with a few small presents. But on December 12, my church made a massive production show, and we had food, music, costumes all to celebrate our morenita. She has been a significant figure in my life as well, and knowing just how similar we celebrated December 12 to those in Mexico made me full a sense of connection to where I come from. It was another point added to my Mexican side of my Mexican-American identity.
