     The First Test of the Righteous Man, Jack Kline calls it in his revisionist Winchester Gospels: Dean having to choose between a town of humans and one of the 66 seals. Dean chose the humans and Castiel told him that he didn’t know if Dean passed or failed. Castiel lied - Dean failed the test of the angels. His final choice, fulfilling his destiny as the Michael Sword would mean looking at half of the humans in the world and choosing against them. The Rising of Samhain was a microcosm. Dean failed the test and Castiel prayed that he would. Something in Castiel was already shifting, already aligning with these humans, these brothers, and their endless striving toward free will, toward making the right choice.
