Colossians 3:8 “But now you also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy talk out of your mouth."
Anger seems to be one of the hardest sinful habit to put aside or as we always say, manage. Maybe it’s because we don’t really take it seriously, and that it’s so easy to make excuses for every burst of anger. But as Christians (the verse is directed towards believers), new or seasoned ones, we have to put away or abandon all these social sins.
For me, anger is like a shrapnel bomb. Stressful or unpleasant situations trigger our anger, and then we explode! Boom! And after awhile, we cool off thinking all is well, but the damage has been done. The shrapnel has hit our loved ones, friend, colleagues, employees, etc. as Eleanor Roosevelt said “Anger is one letter away from danger.” We may justify our words and actions, but we don’t know what negative effects it may have on the people around us (even if the anger was not directed at them). Some may heal and move on, and some may not.
We, sometimes, forget words have power and can either build up or pull down others. Ephesians 4:29 reminds us “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.”
May our words always be always with grace, seasoned with salt. (Col. 4:6)
