The more I live the more I am convinced Malthael had a point. Doesn't help that he is also hot as fuck. And that voice oooh
Forgot to post this finished figure of the Archangel of Valor: Imperius. He ist about 15cm in height
High Heavens Honing #5 - Decoration
Project main tag
For the final set up, we have... kinda everything. Trees, statues, vases, floor patterns, a random public altar (?) and a big-ass crystal that stands specifically in front of the Library of Fate. I wonder if all the centers of the Virtues get some kind of main decoration in front of them...
Anyway, hope you guys enjoyed these practice sketches of the High Heavens ^^ Now it is time to tackle the pages proper. Since those work up rather slowly, unfortunately, I'm gonna have to post other stuff in the meantime, with the occasional WIP progress updates. We will see how things go! But I thank you for your patience, and I do hope to see you at the finished comic!

Then There Were Five - Malthael -ref sheet-
“Then There Were Five” is a 18-page-long (+ a cover) fancomic that dives into the distant past of the Diablo universe, narrated by Archangel Malthael. When the High Heavens were still young and the Eternal Conflict had yet to truly take place, there had been four Archangels - Malthael as Wisdom, Auriel as Hope, Tyrael as Justice and the youngest, Imperius as Valor. All was in balance, and all was good. That is, until the Crystal Arch itself disrupts it all, by unexpectedly giving birth to a fifth.
The eldest among all the angels, Malthael had been the leader of the council since time immemorial. Ever calculating, practical and only speaks when absolutely necessary, he does his best to provide order, stability and prosperity to the Angelic Host. With this newly discovered, mysterious and powerful titanic red gemstone, Malthael is certain he can achieve that. If only those pesky daemons weren't in the way!
Despite his silent ways, Malthael often pours his ever-flowing thoughts into written words, which he prefers to keep to himself. Given enough time, he can come up with the perfect solution for every problem, but improvising on the spot and quickly adapting to sudden change are beyond the scope of his wisdom, sadly.
---
The narrator of the fancomic is finally here! Due to Malthael's style, the comic will be unconventional in the sense that it will have a lot more text than what is usual (or advised). I know I am breaking a rule here, but I think it would fit his character well. You guys will be the judge of that once the pages are ready. :) As for Malthael himself, he is definitely not a cuddly friendly teddy bear and it will show. Boy it will show. Thankfully he is also not the irredeemable treacherous piece of trash he is by the time of Reaper of Souls.
This is the final character art sheet, until the comic itself gets to a certain point. I have to hold Itherael back for story reasons, but I will probably continue by sharing the practices and studies I do about the High Heavens - because lord knows, that architecture is absolutely insane.... Wish me luck, guys ^^;

Malthael ref sheet -WIP-
Project main tag
The eldest (and definitely most "messed up in the head") member of the angelic family coming right up! Malthael might even be the very first being alive in all of Creation, if we assume that the demons came into being later than angels did - which is an extra damn shame, given how he ended his career. And although he is still literal eons away from turning into the Angel of Death in Then There Were Five, he is still not the sparkliest, warmest personality out there, for certain...
Also he will be the narrator of the comic itself. Buckle up, cupcakes.

Then There Were Five - Auriel -ref sheet-
“Then There Were Five” is a 18-page-long (+ a cover) fancomic that dives into the distant past of the Diablo universe, narrated by Archangel Malthael.
Kindness and motherly care reincarnated, Auriel and her ilk were born not long after the establishment of the Silver City itself. Her "pure sunlight" helpful attitude offers a good counterbalance to her brother Malthael's overly practical and cold calculations. She leads the Chorus of the High Heavens which has the ability to influence the Crystal Arch in its slow growing of the city itself. Her folk provides support and healing to the frontline soldiers in these new skirmishes against the new enemy. Auriel is often the bridge between differing opinions, and she is quite good at adapting to new situations as well.

The Lady of the High Heavens and the Heart of the Angiris Council. Also my main girl in Heroes of the Storm (or at least used to be when I still had the time to play). As far as angelic characters go, I truly believe Auriel was one of the best addition to the team from Blizzard, she shows of the actual kind and protective side of the otherwise militaristic and cold as fff Angelic Host. To that end, I actually changed her design ever so slightly. I take the HoTS version as base for the Council members whenever possible since those designs are deliberately simpler than their D3 counterpart. However, Auriel is full of spikes and pointy armor pieces in that modell, so I have basically took a chisel to her and rounded those thorns down. Shape language is very important, people, spikes do not befit a character as caring and kind as she is!
Only two are left, however one of them has to be held back until the comic is actually done, so you guys only gonna see one more ref sheet for the time being :) After that, I am probably going to create practice sketches (or paintings?) about the Silver City itself, cuz lord knows, I'm gonna need those for the background in the comic. And also probably other angelic models for background extras. It's gonna stay busy after the ref sheets, fear not! ^^

Auriel ref sheet -WIP-

The Lady of the High Heavens, and my main girl in HoTS, is coming up next! Her armor is quite interesting, and I'm not gonna lie I introduced some small changes to it, although nothing major. I have found it too "spiky" and aggressive looking to be fit for the Archangel of Hope and Everyone's Mother. We will all see the end result soon, I reckon :)
