while he does ask you about it and realize you're really shy about your singing voice, he doesn't pester you too much, but he does make it clear he loves your voice!
souya knows his face can be rather intimidating, but he tries to soften his voice and make sure you're not feeling scared when communicating your feelings to him.
souya's a great listener! he'll sit you down on his lap and have you talk out all your feelings while the two of you have a nice, long cuddle session. if you get a little too sad and start crying, he'll kiss your tears away and comfort you as much as he can because he doesn't want his princess to cry :(
but he doesn't stop you from crying because he understands it just needs to happen sometimes. he'll make you any comfort food you want to make you feel better, but i don't think he'll be the one to tell you to not cry

I feel like he would take you to go see some light show closer to the holidays. It would be super aesthetic and pretty! Anxiety weighed you down like a tiny paperclip on top of a single sheet of paper in the shape of your chest—almost insignificant but still devastating once entertained. Thoughts of messing up all your hard work to the point it got out of hand continue to plague your mind after unintentionally spilling coffee on your superior’s paperwork this morning. Lucky for you, all you got was a verbal warning and for you to reprint the documents. Sure, it was humiliating and all you wanted was to be swallowed up by the pristine tiles, at least you weren’t fired. Ignoring the pointed stares you got was like peeling off a band-aid compared to receiving a pink slip. But the universe wasn’t smiling down on you today. Oh no, it was mad.
Mad enough to have you blunder a couple of times from handing out the wrong documents to different people, bumping into the janitor’s bucket that resulted in dirty water spilling everywhere onto the floor—even going so far as to have you trip multiple times that resulted in one of your heels breaking on your way to the cafeteria for lunch. If the sandwiches your lovely boyfriend made also met the ground, you were sure you would have lost it already. Yeah, today was totally not in your favor at all.
Slumping down onto the swivel chair, hand massaging your temples, you darted your gaze at the calendar sitting daintily by the stacks of paperwork you had to finish by tomorrow. Narrowed eyes at the numbers, you sighed. It certainly wasn’t Friday the 13th. What is something with today that has you cursed with such unfortunate circumstances? Was chaos spelled across your forehead? Was something evil attached to your arm that was calling out all the malignant forces to pester you? Well, whatever it was, you just hope it will die down before the end of your shift.
Sneaking a glance at your phone, your mind latched to the image of your long-time boyfriend probably still tucked in, snoring because, unlike you, he had today off. Souya’s brother was off to the province to visit some relatives, giving your lover a day off. And today isn’t just a regular Friday—it’s your third year anniversary. Yet, you weren’t blessed with such a miracle such as staying in bed or being greeted by the morning light and Souya’s feather-like kisses. Drinking in his serene face that was usually in a frown when things did not go to plan or he encountered an unnecessarily fussy customer at the restaurant. Wondering if he’d like the little gift you got him a few weeks ago for this special occasion. But no, you had to practically jump off your bed to catch the train unless you wanted it to be as crowded as it can get when living in Tokyo. Breathing in sharply through your nose, you fought hard for your fingers not to float towards the gadget and text him, asking him what he was up to.
Receiving a verbal warning is enough—do you really want to get laid off?
Forcing a smile on your face, hoping that it’ll become genuine as long as you tried, the day was slowly leeching off your energy, albeit too rapidly. No matter how hard you try to stay positive, reminding yourself that you would return home soon and bask in your lover’s embrace after a hearty dinner, it wasn’t working out as far as you hoped. Because who the fuck was in charge of maintaining the elevators and why were they terrible at their jobs for it to suddenly break down when you were tasked to head to the office three floors above yours? And then you knew, this day wouldn’t be complete without draining the last bit of energy you had.
Yup, today is definitely the worst.
Seeing time ticking on his watch, Souya softly thanked the florist who was sweet enough to cater to his request and carried off. Walking down the busy streets, the summer heat was so intense this year that he was starting to sweat despite staying out of the sun’s searing rays. One hand carrying the bouquet of peonies, lavenders, and a few white roses. The other hoping to get his hand on the cake you always wished to try from the bakery you two often frequented when life wasn’t keeping you both busy. Passing by the ramen shop he and his brother owned, Souya’s thoughts went to you. Sugoaku was, after all, the place where he met you.
Stray cats were doing their daily prowl by the area, seeking any chance of food by the back door. With the leftover tuna in his hand, Souya was about to feed the strays felines when he noticed them crowding over a bent figure. And there you were, cooing at the two cats who were quick to chow down on the can of tune you bought from the nearby convenience store. Eyes wide in shock at his figure standing by the door, staring at the scene. Quick to stand, you immediately offered him an explanation. That the cats looked hungry and that you would do something about it if they were ever to come back and bother the restaurant. If you only knew he wasn’t paying any attention to whatever you were saying. Gazed transfixed at how flustered you look, fretting around as if you committed a huge crime.
“I’ll definitely do something. Honest!”
Small but evident, Souya smiled fondly at the memory. Fate really is mysterious as it was funny. He never thought he’d be in a serious relationship with that same woman who begged him not to do any harm to the kittens. Blaming the furrow of his brows and locked jaw, you were certainly terrified at what he might do. Yet, you never disappeared into thin air from then on. Starting out little by little, those impromptu visits became laid out plans. The ink written by destiny started its path across your pages, intertwining the two of your lives together. Souya never complained and neither did you. Those stolen glances turned to longing stares until fingers barely ghosting over the other wasn’t enough. Wanting to kiss you wasn’t enough for the blue-eyed wonder who never failed to put a grin on your face at his acts of affection.
Three years, huh? Souya never thought he’d still be here. You, still here. And no matter how many misunderstandings and arguments may erupt, the green-eyed monster rearing its head at times, he knew there was no other place he’d rather be in than in your arms. Other than Nahoya, you were the next safe haven he could have in a city where bloodshed was often haunting the corners or the dark alleys he has turned his back on. The woman who accepted him wholeheartedly despite the damage his own fists can make whenever sorrow was taunting him. Cradle his heart akin to holding glass while raking those nails down his back. Scratching his cheek, Souya sometimes wishes you’d share your burden with him. It was clear as day that work was tiring you out, slowly sucking out the passion in those eyes. He wasn’t as oblivious to your hidden yawns and soft groans of pain whenever you were in the kitchen making dinner for you two, fist hitting the sore area on your back whenever you thought his gaze was on the television. He definitely isn’t blind to see the evident dark circles forming beneath your pretty eyes that never failed to shine at the sight of him. And he was certainly not deaf to ignore your snores that grew louder each night that passed whenever you did not get adequate rest. Plus, you could be as stubborn as his brother. How was he supposed to tell you to rest if you were one step away from shooting daggers at him to keep distance while you were in the zone? The last time he bugged you to sleep, Souya slept at his brother’s apartment in fear of making you even more vexed at one in the morning. Nahoya laughed at his misfortune after making him a bowl of ramen to ponder over what to do with you.

Used to this phenomenon, the expression of utter surprise on his handsome features was like red paint sprayed over ivory walls when his gaze landed on your hunched form by the kitchen sink. “Babe? You’re home early…” Blue irises seeking the clock hanging on the wall, his lips parted at the time. It was still thirty minutes early from your usual leave. Thousands of questions from how and why sprung up into his head, mouth unable to begin forming them when you sighed. Leaning against the counter, you placed the candle holder with a small pout. Hands crossed over your chest, you mumbled.
“Yeah, I know. It’s ‘cause my boss wanted me to return home early—and no, I did not get fired. If that’s what you’re afraid to hear,” you were quick to add, seeing the telltale alarm in those crystal blues. Souya was always looking out for you, knowing when to catch you whenever you were about to fall or to hand you a glass of water if you appeared you were about to cough out your food. He was everything a boyfriend should be—the ideal lover anyone would want and have. Unlike you, who was sent home earlier than the rest because you broke down in tears in the middle of typing because you failed to execute the task your superior handed to you three days ago. Fear licked at the soles of your feet as you padded to the refrigerator, hoping to clear your head by making dinner.
Yeah, Souya was charming when he could be. His appeal too cute for anyone to resist if they managed to crack the rough shell and see the real Souya hiding underneath. For sure, he could have any girl he wanted, one who wouldn’t scream at him out of frustration. Never having realized you were holding it in. “That’s it, that’s it…” Patting your head, he leveled his head with yours. Eagerly listening to the sound of your breath gradually returning to normal. Those eyes widened at the tears now sliding down the apples of your cheeks. “W-why are you cryin’? Tell me, baby, what’s wrong?”
And that question alone broke the thin dam.
Clutching at his shirt, you cried out. Tears stream down your face in fat globes, loud as they hit the floor. “I had a shitty day at work, Souya! N-nothing was going my way. I-I was fucking sure they’d fire me, you know?” Sobbing into your hands, you felt his arms envelope around your shaking form and hugged you. Not tight to a point it was suffocating, just right for you to remember his presence as your muddled mind started to pour out the stress it went through. Listening and letting you cry it all out. “And, a-and then they sent me home. Said I can rest, but as I left, it didn’t feel right! I felt so stupid! Useless even! I was afraid if you saw me in such a shitty state on our anniversary you’d get tired and leave me—”
“Leave you?”

About to explain, Souya beat you to it first. Pulling away slightly, his warm hand cupped your soft cheek while shaking his head. “Who said I’ll leave you, huh? What gave you that stupid idea?” Mouth opening and closing, unable to speak a word, you stood there. Like a fish out of water. Seeing that, Souya puffed out air at the ridiculous notion. “Really stupid. You know I won’t love anyone else but you, yeah?” Lightly flicking your forehead, you blinked twice. Meeting those azure irises that held a lot more love than you could describe, practically screaming at you now. Overflowing, accepting, unconditional. And most of all, yours.

Fighting back the idiotic grin now breaking through the surface, you groaned into your hand. “God, I look and feel like a baby after saying all that…” Fingers moving to hoist your chin up, the rest of your sentence dissipated into the air when Souya’s supple lips met yours. The paperclip weight gradually being lifted as he moved his mouth against yours like it was the very first time. Reminding you that in the beginning and in the end, it will always be you and him. Dazed, you didn’t mind his mouth pulling away to press more chaste kisses to your dumbfounded face.
