When Padmé goes into labour before Anakin can intervene with Palpatine's arrest, it rewrites their destiny altogether.

In the Jedi Temple.
In the Senate.
In the Chancellor’s office.
Every step forward reshapes the end.

The Dreams and The Fireplace
It's done. The matrimonial vows... Looking at the sunset over the horizon... Wondering now... what will become of them after this forbidden marriage... But in this moment, that thought was tucked away for the night... A night of declaration... the consummation... of Anakin and Padme.

Day Off │Anidala
Written for @anidalaweeks Anidala Yuletide Event and Secret Santa exchange.
This fic is dedicated to the amazing @padmeanddorme who provided the prompt: Life day during/after the clone wars, Anakin unexpectedly coming home from the war on life day.
Padmé had complete faith in her husband’s eventual return and the fact that he would come back in one piece. Her main concern was the question of when. Would it be another month or week until she saw him again? It would alleviate matters if she could talk to Ani, but this prolonged silence was all she could look forward to in the near future.

Padmé shut her eyes, but she could still see the blue screen of her datapad beneath her eyelids. Sighing, she clicked off the device, laying it aside, to stand up and cross to the window overlooking the Coruscant skyline.
As usual, the eternal city never slept, even at this hour of the night. Traffic congested the skies and Padmé wondered how many of them contained frantic families hurrying to their relatives’ homes to partake in the impending celebrations.
Lights from the upper apartments glowed cheerily, reminding her of the gleaming baubles she’d seen in her fellow senators’ offices and abodes. Not her own though. Padmé turned around to gaze at her own dismal surroundings.
Well, perhaps dismal wasn’t the proper word since her apartment was as ornate as ever, but it held a certain coldness and melancholy to it without any festive trimmings to brighten up the space.
She had meant to add a few decorations herself, however, obligations to the senate intruded on those plans. A debate for an upcoming bill was scheduled to take place the morning after Life Day, something Padmé was sure that the opposition had secured through bribes, so as to upset her delegation’s preparation. Despite the oppositions’ best effort, the scheme wouldn’t work.
@anidalaweeks Yuletide 2025 shortfic; day 13 - the night before
Warnings: implied childhood trauma, implied grooming
- Anakin, Padmé, and the twins snuggle up together as a family, and the rest of the galaxy ceases to exist.
Comfy Cozy Are We
The night before Life Day was truly an awful time to be Supreme Chancellor.
Perhaps her predecessor hadn’t thought of it that way, but Padmé had a family to get home to. She could only wonder what Sideous did in his free time - not that she wanted to know, and thinking about it admittedly made her blood boil. What did he sit around and plot for when he wasn’t giving speeches to the Senate or sitting through meetings? What schemes to manipulate the war did he dream up? What lies did he spin to feed into Anakin’s young mind?
Padmé shook herself. It wouldn’t do to think like this on her way home, she couldn’t greet her husband and children with a scowl.
Her work as Chancellor was rewarding, of course it was, it was satisfying as all hell to tear down and destroy all the systems Sideous had put in place and in turn make the galaxy safer - and kinder - for everyone.
That was all Padmé had ever dreamed of when she’d first started this journey, when she was eight years old - not much older than Luke and Leia were now - and decided she wanted to be queen of Naboo.
Would she change her mind, knowing what she knew now?
Well, she likely wouldn’t have the family she had today if she did.
