I think this is the step most animators like the most since its just laying down poses and keying your key poses and some inbetweens. Doing some thumbnaling before I animate. Its good to practice so you can get your timing correct. I haven't done 2d in a while but a quick timing adjusting in a 2d platform can make 3d go by faster. They also use a thing called X sheet that helps with timing. Both are good tools when animating.
