Abstrusely strange and surreal sort of triptych that i guess in sum points to the effect of living under a deleterious state. A deeply personal working out of things, perhaps only completely intelligible by Khamdamov himself. A woman back from the gulag, seeking revenge on the person whose betrayal sent her there, finding ruin, scams and obstruction. Goes to the movies. Comes out into a cinema-enabled, power-inhibited love and revenge movie of her own. The scene in the graveyard hit such a sublime tone. The movie (what remains of the director’s censored first film) she sees looked great as well. I will have to watch this all again, which is fine because it was a nice thing to be absorbed by.
