Anna Reading (2020) ‘Forwards Backwards Awkwards’

Forwards Backwards Awkwards is a performance in which I enter a cage-like sculpture made from wood, card, foam, gravel and gloss paint. Wearing full yellow waterproofs I crawl inside the piece and slowly and methodically travel across the gallery space. The performance acts as a both laborious and comical journey, exploring notions of shelter and vulnerability. At the end of the performance, the sculptural relic is left in the gallery discarded as a shell would be.
