Hey. What was that about a writer talking to a ghost for historical fiction????
Elizabeth Chadwick is a historical fiction novelist, writing several novels and series, including a trilogy on Eleanor of Aquitaine, which was how I feel down a rabbit hole while trying to do a should-I-invest-my-time-in-reading-these precheck.
Anyway... so, uhh on her website she has an entry talking about how a major part of her workflow is visiting a friend that can sense the past auras of people, places and events she refers to as the "Akashic Record". In said page, she likens it to a special ability like us regular people doing a sport recreationally vs. Olympic athletes, which is an interesting pedestal to put what's basically a medium or psychic on instead of a career historian. I get chatting about how people would have thought and reacted to develop characters in your historical fiction novels, but it's very much worded as she believes this woman is giving her a documentary of sorts into the past– an exclusive view of the truth only she knows, if you will– and on a serious note that does really rub me the wrong way for several reasons.
