Having a permanent place to music was all he ever wanted, even if it was just at a piano bar downtown. It gave his life a splash of color now that it back being so oddly dull. People seemed to enjoy his music, especially around this time of year. Though he was getting sick of all the Christmas jingles, people were generous enough and seemed... well, happy. He admired that, even if he wasn’t really feeling it himself.
As he finished up the last song of the night, his fingers effortlessly brushing against the keys, he looked up at the little crowd with a smile and gave an appreciative nod before standing up to walk away from the piano... That is until his eyes caught the sight of someone he hadn’t seen in over a year - give or take. It felt like seeing a ghost, and some part of him wondered if his eyes were playing tricks on him. Lord knows he often saw her in stranger’s faces. But the more he looked at her and the more she looked at him... he knew it was her. Sarah. It was a strange sensation seeing her, especially after they had agreed to go their separate ways. Agreed was a loose word, considering it was his fault for never finding the courage to open up to her. All she wanted was for him to let her in, and he foolishly did just the opposite.
He stepped down from the stage, but kept eye-contact with her. He didn’t know what to say or do... So he just looked at her across the way before giving her a small and hopeful smile.
