So don't know if you've hit the issue or not but there is another issue after this that reveals that King Acorn is mind controlled or a duplicate or something... OR it was a new character introduced to be plot device? Or both... I forgot.
It’s been a long and arduous process getting King Acorn back, and I’m not sure it was really worth it because he’s kind of a huge dick and an awful leader? But he was both replaced with a robot AND mind controlled within a ten-issue span. He was replaced with a robot for the Endgame story arc (issues 47-50), and just a few issues later he was possessed by the evil sorcerer (and current Big Bad) Ixis Naugus
The King barely just got back to being his normal self after all this time, and the first hing he did was yell at Sally and tell her she has to agree to an arranged marriage. Yeah, really makes me glad we spent so many issues trying to save the guy
