Mason/Lily: It’s like… once you’ve been hurt, you’re so scared to get attached, again. - You and I were probably never meant to be, but I loved every second with you. - You knew I wasn’t perfect, but I tried to be for you.
“It’s like… once you’ve been hurt, you’re so scared to get attached, again.”
Mason exhaled a breathe of smoke, licking his lips. “I’m not going to say sorry anymore. Not because I’m not sorry we hurt you, because I am,” he told her, dropping the cigarette from his lips, snuffing out the object. “You’re scared to get attached, but I’ve never stopped,” he told her, his hands shoved into his pockets. “Even when I was with her,” he went on. “I’ve always been yours and I’m not going to stop trying.”
“You and I were probably never meant to be, but I loved every second with you.”
Mason shook his head. “Don’t say that,” he told her, brows furrowed as he stared down at the carving of their names. “Don’t say that like we’re all done. You and me, we were always meant to be,” he stated, forcing his gaze up to meet hers. “You don’t mean it. You can’t,” he went on, though the look in her eyes were tired and sad, a combination he wished he weren’t the cause of. “Lily, I love you,” he told her, though wondered if that were enough anymore.
“You knew I wasn’t perfect, but I tried to be for you.”
“You didn’t try for me,” Mason scoffed. “You’re right. I knew you weren’t perfect. I knew I didn’t want perfect, Lily, I wanted you. I’d never ask you to be perfect. I’m not your parents,” he stated, refusing to look away now, even if she had. “You didn’t try for me. You tried for them,” he went on, the venom clear in his throat as he gestured towards the pristine building that belonged to the Billings girls.
