An old wip that I finally finished! Happy Late Valentine’s Day!
Dimiclaude are amazing to me because Dimitri is a very grounding force for Claude and I feel like we don’t discuss what Dimitri does for him emotionally nearly enough.
Claude is more than a bit idealistic, always thinking of the big picture, the grand scheme (ha) of things. Dimitri is a lot more grounded, a day-to-day person and lover, preferring to finish one task before fully devoting his mind to the next.
Claude is more than a bit ambitious. Dimitri is no less ambitious but much more methodical, aware, and paradoxically, planned in terms of his actions.
Claude can be lost, and at his worst, erratic. He needs to think of what he’s going to do, how he’s going to do, when and in what order he should do it. And then, make preparations for the moment he will be doing it.
Sure, you can confront Claude all you want about how he needs to change his habits and how they’re harming him but all you’ll receive is that he ‘knows, don’t worry’ and he ‘knows himself enough to take a break when needed’. And at his worst, Claude will believe his own words, that he’s aware and in control, even as he puts down his fourth cup of coffee on the office table and the clock hits 4 in the morning.
Dimitri isn’t blind, especially not to Claude, and Dimitri knows much better than to use words or a scolding. Claude will play him off with yet another ‘don’t worry’ and a flippant flirt to throw Dimitri off balance enough. And if he insists, Claude’s words will take on a more irritated edge in their playfulness, something along the lines of ‘what did i do to be babysat by his majesty himself’, a careful jab with the same aim of throwing Dimitri off balance.
So what will he do ? Nothing. He won’t even approach Claude at all about his habits. All he’ll do is take care of the little tasks neglected by Claude’s bigger purposes. Bringing his clothes to wash, tidying up the bed that was left unmade in favour of an early morning alliance meeting, replacing the nearly empty ink container in his office, perhaps even filling up the empty vase on his windowsill with a few sunflowers, in that slightly cliché devotional fashion that glows of Dimitri.
Day-to-day, he’ll do a couple tasks. And Dimitri knows Claude isn’t blind either, that he has noticed his own negligence but was simply too overtaken to admit he’s falling behind on anything that doesn’t concern his outer presentation. And since he won’t realize it himself and won’t accept anyone making that realization for him, all Dimitri does is simply lead him to it.
So he waits, until there’s a knock on his door and an invite to walk in the gardens. And once they’re sat in comfortable silence, Claude will make a remark on a mysterious figure that comes into his room when he’s away and maliciously does all his chores. And Dimitri will let him know that all the guards will be on higher alert from now on. Then a kiss on the cheek and a ‘thank you’ too heartfelt for their current conversation.
No Peeking! 🫣
So Dimitri is The Lion King, right?
Claude might be a deer, but his birthday falls on July 24. So he’s a Leo.
Leo means Lion in Latin.
I can’t believe in six years dimiclaude nation has done NOTHING with this.
