So I have this very persistent headcanon that won’t stop bugging me so I’m telling it to you because I feel like you might appreciate it.

So I feel like Institute’s have one large nursery that is in the most defendable area of the Institute where all the children, regardless of whether they’re closely related or not, are meant to sleep, after they have gotten to the point of mostly sleeping through the night as babies. And depending on the level of demon activity present they will stay there until they are old enough to receive their first runes. Just in case because there’s nothing wrong with being overly cautious. They might move out sooner but that is honestly more dependent on the parents opinions than anything else.

And yes this is partially based on how nurseries sometimes worked in older time periods.

Yes! I fully agree with this!

It makes more sense the longer you think about it too because Gabriel and Cecily lived in the Institute for a good number of years after the events of TID, even still living there after getting married and after Anna and Kit were born (see: The Whitechapel Fiend).

It probably also just makes it a thousand times simpler for Bridget to watch over all the little turds while their parents were out if they shared the same room. Luckily for the kids, they're all cousins so it's not too weird for them to share a room. And you know that Anna was Queen of the Nursery.

And 100% agree that the Nursery is one of the more fortified rooms in the Institute to keep the little ones safe until they're old enough to get their runes or somewhat defend themselves until more help comes. I would think that the London Institute Nursery is a particularly extra-fortified one after the events of The Whitechapel Fiend and the fact that Will is in charge of the Institute and would definitely allocate extra funds toward making sure the children are safe. He would not want to risk his kids' and nieces' and nephews' lives.

The TID parents are a cautious bunch so it wouldn't surprise me if the nurseries in their own homes had extra wards as well. Like you said--better safe than sorry!
