What if it was a mage teen!MC related to Taylor in this scenario? Say 13-17 yr old Mc gets kicked out of their house because the magic started manifesting at a later age and is homeless for a while- and shows up on the skeletons and Taylor's doorstep after starving for a long while with nowhere else to go out of desperation? Obviously Taylor wants to save face and takes them in, but spreads rumors about her being a druggie or mean or all the bad things normally associated with people that get kicked out- but MC is just sincere kid down on their luck and in an awful situation because of magic beyond their control, which manifests when their scared- sparks or flames or thorns and the like. Mc is sneaky and cagey and have the instincts of a survivalist from being the street for months- but are still kind and sweet at heart. Gasters too please :)
-wisp
Well, the Gasters don't take anything Taylor says as truth to begin with. So they're already on Mc's side, only added by the fact that she can see and interact with them. So she has them to help her. Whether that's with homework, avoiding Taylor or any of the skeletons, or anything else she may need. Plus just keeping her company.
Of course the Undertale, Underswap, and Horrortale are the better company, but the Underfell and Swapfell Gasters are great at helping her learn to understand and use her magic efficiently. Surprisingly great teachers when the others are there to keep them in check. Those two also respect her determination to keep going, something admirable they wouldn't have expected of her if they met earlier. Horrortale's Gaster is dead set on making sure she eats properly though.
The other skeletons aren't really outright hostile to a Teen!Mc, especially if she's a younger teen. But they are harder on her than if she was a child. Plus, all the skeletons have been homeless once in their life. While they were children even, so they're more understanding of her position. Black and Red especially, with their harsher timelines.
That doesn't mean they're nice exactly, especially with Taylor's crap in their earholes. But it does mean they're willing to hear Mc out more, and try to work through things with her. Plus get a doctor involved which will disprove the whole drug use thing, because that's a serious issue which could endanger her and they're not going to risk that problem becoming bigger.
They are a bit wary about her magic, though they'd be able to understand it better as time goes on. What triggers it, what it does, how to handle it. The fact that the whole intent of it is to protect Mc instead of just outright hostility helps a lot. If you're not trying to outright attack or harm Mc, you're pretty much in the clear as long as you keep your distance. And once Mc calms down, it's completely fine.
Black, Edge, Papyrus, and Blue definitely try to help her get a better control over her magic though. She can't be destroying parts of the house or the backyard every time she gets scared.
Black, Mutt, Red, and Edge would be able to see through any mean, tough girl act that Mc put on. And they would tell the others about it too. Those four come from harsh universes, they're easily able to see the masks that they themselves had to wear their whole lives. They get it, really. Mutt would become her biggest ally again, though Red would take pity on Mc a lot too and mostly ignore what Taylor said about her. Doesn't mean they just put up with the sneakiness though, but they're not going to be too hard on her for it. They want to make sure she understands it's not appreciated and that it's not needed while she's in their home.
Sans is mostly fine as long as she stays out of the basement. While he doesn't completely get Mc's attitude and everything, he does have some sympathy for her and her situation. Mage or not, horrible attitude or not, he's not going to kick her out and let her starve again. She's technically still a kid after all. He'll leave her in the Fells' hands, they seem to understand her better than he can and look like they've got it handled.
Papyrus and Blue nearly had a heart attack when they first saw how skinny she was. Blue has a bit more sympathy for her situation, being the big brother who had to deal with everything more, but Papyrus definitely feels bad for her too. They want to help her! Though they.. don't always know how to? The Fells are definitely better with this than they are, but they're patient and determined! They gone through something very similar with the Fells after all, so they just need to help her realize she's safe and things will start getting better.
Stretch definitely feels bad, but he mostly just stays out of the way. The Fells clearly got a better handle on this than he ever would and he doesn't know how to handle this ball of anxiety and distrust that is this human teenager. He does find some similarities in when the Fells first showed up, but he didn't do much with them either. Nor was that a whole lot of pleasant experiences. Plus, they're adults. This is a kid. He mainly just hangs out with her when they're in the same room doing separate things. Kind of just- You leave me alone, I'll leave you alone.
Grey and Lunar take one look at this starved, anxious, distrustful teenager and immediately just go: "Mine." They relate to her hard. Their AU got bad enough that they couldn't really trust anyone around them, not even what used to be friends. They also get having to do what you have to to survive. Magic also kind of went wild with everything that happen Underground and they had to relearn everything once they got to the Surface, another thing they can relate to her with. But at least they had their house they could hide in, Mc didn't even have that much. Plus they can also relate to her on Taylor's bullshit too. So they mother-hen Teen!Mc a lot and basically just kind of force themselves into her life. Both making sure she eats and has a safe place to hunker in if she comes over to their house.
Which as annoying as she can find them at times, she does. Just because they're so genuine in their attempts to care for her and they only really push when it comes to food. Plus, their house is quiet. It's a nice place to get away from the bustling of the lodge and all the crap that goes on there, plus she gets some reprieve from the sometimes overbearing skeletons there.
kinda an odd thought for the kid!MC au since I don't think the boys are adopting types but what if the kid is brought home by one of the skeletons and taylor reveals her true ugly colors out of jealousy on this randomly adopted/found orphan that a skeleman is trying to raise? food for thought?
oooo even angstier how about this kid is Taylors from the old boyfriend and she put them up for adoption and no one but taylor knows. secretive threats like "if you tell them I'm your real mother I'll make sure you never have a family again" and since they are smol and impressionable they keep their mouth shut from terror
skeledads just helpin this poor kid heal givin em a good home
idk man your work is just really good and now my brain is conjuring scenarios lol~ feel free to ignore my rambling love ur fic <3

All the boys are ultimately the adopting type. I mean, Black and Mutt adopted Mc in "Can I Keep You?" and in all the Child!Mc scenarios, all the skeletons have basically adopted her as their own. And they'd be happy to adopt after extensive talk if that's what their partner prefers as well. Some are more open to children than others, but they wouldn't leave a child on their own if it comes down to it. Not even the Fells.
In this scenario, the skeletons would have long talks about taking this child in. They'd end up being the responsibility of everyone in the long run after all, and talks about if they can really handle a child at the moment. Of course, they'd never leave the child on their own even if they decided they couldn't handle their care.
Their main concern would be what happens to the child after everyone else is sent back to their universes, if the child would end up getting tossed back into one of the others (which would be a problem considering practically everyone else is still Underground. Only a few pairs actually made it to the Surface before being pulled through.) Or if they'd stay right where they are, which would leave Sans and Papyrus as their sole caregivers. Along with the child's safety around such a volatile machine, even if they stay out of the basement like they're supposed to.
If they decided that "no, a child complicates things too much and we can't handle them at the moment." Sans would either have them put into the care of another pair of brothers (so those already attached can visit if they wanted) or contact Toriel about taking the child in. As for which brothers... I'm not sure. Possibly Lilac and Charmed at the behest of Mutt, since Guns, Ace, G, and Aster would also have a hand at caring for her too. But they don't really trust Lilac and Charmed, so ultimately the kid would probably go to either G and Aster or Guns and Ace if they're up to it. Probably the former honestly, since they're more receptive to the thought of care for a child. Or at least G is.
Adding to the fact would be that Taylor would absolutely throw a fit about one of the skeletons adopting a child. She viscerally hates children with a passion, and she's one of those assholes that'll make a child's life miserable if she has to deal with them. Purposely. Maybe not obviously in front of the skeletons (to keep up her "sweet, loving girlfriend" persona), but they'd be able to catch on pretty early considering the child's reluctance to be anywhere near Taylor. Black, Mutt, Edge, and Red particularly would be able to quickly pick up on the kid's fear of her.
And Guns and Ace would absolutely figure of the child's origins. Rather quickly in fact, since they're going to look into the child's past. Just to make sure they're not a run away or something and get the paperwork settled for the adoption. Since they don't want to be accused of kidnapping them. They would relay that back to the lodge skeletons too. And that's only if the Lodge skeletons request that from them, otherwise Black and/or Edge would be the ones doing all that. And that would lead them to finding out about the threats which.... none of them would be happy about.
more rambles for a child! MC au~ I'm a bit of writer but am so burned out I can't wrote anything so this is just idea vomit
So what if the child ends up being a mage/has magic? Would the boys help if MC just comes up to one of them one day, says, 'I can do this', shows off magic of some sort like sparks or growing owners or flames or something, and asks the skeleton to teach them? Taylor calling them a witch/unnatural child and bullying them over powers completely beyond their control, probbaly behind the boys backs? Would this make any of the boys wary since human mages trapped monsters underground?
sorry rose dear I'm a rambler and my thoughts get away from me sometimes....

Ah, burnout sucks. Hope you can get through it soon! I don't mind anyone rambling in my inbox, go ahead!
As for how the boys would feel... it varies. The fells are a bit more hostile to mages, or at least Red and Edge are more so, but that's just due to their Undergrounds. Black and Mutt are just more wary and untrusting. The others are wary of mages as well, as they caused a great amount of suffering in multiple universes, but willing to give them a second chance since it's been years after all. The only ones who wouldn't really have an opinion either way, or care more than making sure she can control it, would be the Mob!Bros. But with Mc it would be a bit different, for two reasons.
The first is that it's Mc. They know this kid, they know she doesn't mean or want to do them any harm. And the fell skeletons can admit to being selfish, as if it wasn't Mc they wouldn't be so kind. So just on that front, they all are cool with it. The other is that she's a kid, a kid living with them in fact. Kids are impressionable, they can be taught and learn and be molded by those around them. They can teach her and she knows that they'd never purposely harm her, they can teach her and she can learn Monsters aren't to be feared. So they know she's not and wont be a threat to their safety or anything, especially with them teaching her.
That being said, it still would be quite the shock to find out that she's a mage. I still think she'd be proficient in healing magic, just do to her SOUL. And that's not really an offensive or dangerous magic. But with training and the strength of SOULs, along with just being surrounded by magic and consuming magic-based foods, it could possibly develop more.
As for Taylor.... yeah, she'd definitely do that. But with Mc still being a kid, it'd end up pretty obvious something's up when she starts withdrawing from learning how to hone and use her magic. The big brothers (Black especially) of the group would easily be able to pick up on it after a while, and the others helping her figure out how to control it. Namely Aster and Papyrus. While Mc may not want to tell, they'd be able to coax the problem out of her and Taylor would be in hot water for it.
and yea I get that! i always loved the fell aus ever since they started blowing up a couple years back
man, 6 years with undertale. im shook
in terms of characters my fav is paps but in terms of aus and concepts I really like outertale and farmtale~ the aesthetics are just *chefs kiss* amazing
-wisp
Thanks!
I don't remember how long I've been in the Undertale fandom, but I know it hasn't been six years (I think I actually entered because of the bittybones honestly). I'm still pretty new in the grand scheme. But fells were pretty cool, even if I was a little put off at first.
aww thank you! may I ask whom your favorite skeleton boy is, Rose?
call me basic but The Great Papyrus is my beloved~ he's so positive and people call him childish but that's because they've been told that cynicism is equivalent to maturity which is simply ridiculous~ it takes strength to be kind and cheerful and that's why Paps is the Best
oop sorry got a lil off topic but I'm a simp uwu

I don't really have one favorite skeleton exactly. I find most of skeletons really interesting, but I suppose my favorites would be the Lust brothers followed by Red and Edge.
I find Underlust as a concept fascinating, I don't know why but I do. A world without closer bonds and simple affections, something about it is just interesting and fun to play around with. And the Lust au is like a nice in between I suppose. Still kinder like regular Undertale, but still a bit harsher and distanced like the fell universes.
I don't know if any of that made sense, but that's what I was able to come up with as an explanation for my liking of the Lust brothers.
literally was not expecting that much detail lol but thank you so much for your answer rose! Kinda have the urge to write that fic now but also am very burnt out so I'll just stay here simping over your amazing writing
-wisp
Ah. Take your time getting back into writing. Burn out is never fun.
