Another Car || Kitty and Puck
Tagging: Kitty Wilde and Noah Puckerman
Notes: Kitty and Puck meet and look for another car.
Warnings: Zombie attacks.
Kitty was walking alone on the side of the road, cradling her wounded arm subconsciously. She'd been getting some weird vibes from Rachel and she wasn't sure what that was about...She and Finn were friends and that's pretty much all there was to /that/. After the mess with Sam and Blaine, Kitty wasn't sure she'd want to get close to another person for a while...emotionally, anyway. She sighed as she looked around, wondering why there was such a lack of zombies in this part of town. Maybe they were all with Quinn and Jake. She hoped not; she didn't want any of her friends to die. Puck had said he'd meet her around this street but she wasn't sure if he was still coming and as it got darker she thought that she might ought to branch out to other places.
Puck walked down each isle with his hands shoved in his pockets. He'd been thinking since he arrived at the hardware store and things weren't looking up. If Quinn and Jake never found Shelby and Beth, what would he do? He knew he'd never really been there for his girl, not that he could be anyway, but he loved her. Thinking about the mess made him more angry than anything, but only himself was to blame. As he walked out into the open with his bat in hand, he halfway expected a zombie to attack him. When there was none to be found, he narrowed his eyes and began to walk. Surely he'd run into Kitty eventually; he had to.
Kitty heard him before she saw him, making sure she was a good distance away when she said his name; she didn't need him swinging away when she was close. "Hey," she said after she'd gotten his attention, walking closer. She hadn't realized how good it would be to see him, or how much she'd actually worried about him until he was actually there. She wrapped her arms around his waist before he could even say anything, hugging him tightly. "If you try to feel me up while I'm crying I'll shoot you in the leg and leave you for the zombies," she warned him.
Puck smiled when he heard Kitty's voice. it reminded him of a few good times- before everything went to shit. Surprised by the sudden hold around his body, Puck slung his arm around her, pulling her into his chest. "If you shoot me in the leg, you'll be left with one less hottie," he joked. He was happy to see her alive and well. Looking down at Kitty, Puck raised his brow. "Are you really crying?"
Kitty shook her head. "No, not really. But close. It's good to see you." She pulled away and crossed her arms, looking the man up and down. "You look good. I'm glad that the end of the world hasn't changed you much. How are things at the store?"
Puck smirked. "I know you're happy to see me and all, but I don't think getting caught up in my hotness is a smart idea right now," he joked. Licking over his lips, Puck looked back toward the store and shook his head."Boring as hell. I tried talking to Sam's little bro and sis, but it's useless. They don't get me," he said as he turned around. "How's the van? Had a steamy three way yet?"
Kitty rolled her eyes at everything that came out of his mouth. "Not my scene," she told him. "At all. I can't breathe in there and the windows are always fogged up so you can't really see outside. Too many people, too little space." She shuddered, thinking about it. "I should probably go back to the store but I'm not sure that's a good idea either."
Puck mocked her with a grin, but his smile faded. He wasn't really good with girls, but the look on Kitty's face and the sound in her voice told him something was definitely off. "If you want, you can come chill with me and the Nine Inch Nails," he offered with a smile. "Probably wouldn't be much better though."
Kitty started walking down the road, hitting her leg lightly with her bat as she walked. "I think anything would be better than sharing a van with Rachel and Finn," she murmured, looking around them. She'd already checked all the cars on this side and none worked. "Do you think Shelby and Beth are in Lima?" she asked him, honestly curious. She'd heard they were in NY.
Puck chuckled, having no doubt about it. "What? Not liking the company of my Jewish princess? Or the fact that they're basically an old married couple?" Looking down at the ground, Puck stiffened as he walked. Talking about Beth was a lot harder than just thinking. "I hope that's where they are. And I hope it's safe there."
Kitty nodded. "I hope they're there too. I don't know why, I just feel like anywhere would have to be better than this," she said, motioning to the empty street. "Quinn won't be okay until we look though, you know? I think it's best for everyone if we take care of that now, before she gets worse."
Puck felt bad for not being there for Quinn. Even before the whole mess had started, Puck had practically ignored the fact they shared a child together. "I want her to be okay too," he said, shrugging. Puck looked out into the darkness and moved his eyes over to Kitty, stopping her from walking any further. "What's that over there?" he asked, his eyes narrowing to focus.
Kitty stood completely still, afraid to move. Hopefully it was an animal; she hadn't seen anything, though, so she had no idea.
Puck walked closer, hoping Kitty would stand still in her spot. He'd killed one too many zombies and for some reason he didn't want her to watch him kill another.
Kitty reached out for him to stop but he was already walking forward, his back to her. "Shit," she whispered quietly, looking around and raising her bat just in case. She had her gun with her but knew it was a last resort.
Puck swallowed thickly and rolled his eyes as he watched a single zombie walking in slow circles. "Seriously?" he whispered. Walking closer almost silently, Puck raised his bat and swung hard. When the body hit the ground, Puck hit it a few more times just to make sure it was dead- well, not able to move? Turning back to Kitty, he waved his bat and began walking back to her. "I think we're okay now."
Kitty lowered her bat, looking over at the body on the ground and swallowing hard. No matter how many zombies she saw, she could never stop thinking about the human they used to be. "Yeah," she said, looking back up at Puck. "We should probably hurry."
Puck reached out and pushed Kitty's chin slightly, stirring her look away from the body. "Don't look at it," he said with a shrug as he pulled away. Nodding in agreement, he turned back and scanned the parking lot. "Have you tried all of the cars?"
Kitty nodded, walking down the street once more. "Yeah, all on this side. None of them work, which is weird. Want to go a few streets over and check there?"
Puck thought about the possibility of more zombies, but nodded anyway. "Yeah, totally. Just stay close." As he walked, Puck twisted his bat in his hand, finding himself more bored than anything.
Kitty tried a few of the cars and trucks on a side road, shaking her head each time as they wouldn't turn over. "I feel like the zombies have somehow screwed with all the cars or something," she said, looking over at Puck. "You know, Santana and Brittany have had a hard time finding-" Her words were cut off when she was hit from behind, a zombie rushing her and jumping onto her back. She fell hard while reaching back and grabbing the zombie's hair, trying to keep its teeth away from her body. "Puck!" she screamed, her voice full of terror. "Help me!"
Puck tried a few cars and trucks himself, always rolling his eyes in the same frustrated way when nothing happened. As he walked alongside Kitty, he kept his eyes in front of him, not even thinking about the things behind. "Yeah, tell me about it. I barely got a brand new Tahoe to start when I left the gas station. If it hadn't of started last second, I would have been bitten. Zombie busted out my window and everything." Puck heard the grunts of the zombie too late. Looking down, he raised his bat, afraid of hitting Kitty. Swallowing thickly, he swung, hitting the zombie in the face. Kicking at it, Puck knocked it away from Kitty, swinging his bat until it had stopped moving- and even after.
Kitty scrambled to get up, shaking as she watched Puck kill the zombie and then looking around frantically, scared that there were more. She'd never been that close to a zombie before. "Did it bite me?" she asked him as she stood, holding her arms out as her whole body shook. "Did it? Am I dead?" Tears ran down her face but she didn't realize she was crying, everything numb.
Puck dropped his bat, knowing that was probably a bad idea but not even caring. He pulled Kitty into his chest, his hand hugging the back of her head tightly as he held her close. "You're fine Kitty. It didn't hurt you. You're still alive," he said quietly, wanting her to relax. He'd never seen her cry before and frankly, he didn't want to.
Kitty held him tightly, taking deep breaths and trying to calm down. She'd thought the zombie had bitten her. She'd thought she was going to turn into one of them. "I'm okay," she said, not letting go of him. "I'm fine."
Puck didn't let go either. He wanted Kitty to be okay. She was one of the stronger ones around and Puck couldn't stand to lose that. "You sure?" he asked, tightening his grip slightly. "Maybe we should get you back to the van. I don't mind looking alone."
Kitty shook her head, pulling away. "I'm okay," she told him. "I think my arm's bleeding again, though." She pulled her hoodie sleeve up to show a soaked strip of tshirt, wincing and looking around. "They smell blood, right?" she asked worriedly before shoving his chest. "Get away from me, Puck. Go back the other way."
Puck 's eyes widened as he looked at Kitty's arm. "Kitty what the hell happened?" he asked, more worried than anything. Narrowing his eyes, Puck shook his head. "No. There's no way I'm leaving you here," he said. Thinking for a moment, Puck pulled off his shirt and began tearing it into strips. "We should change it," he said, the cold cutting into his skin. "Can I?"
Kitty nodded, holding her arm out to him. "I was running from a couple of zombies and hopped a fence," she told him, moaning softly in pain as he tugged on the cloth. Some of the blood had dried and now it was sticking to her. "It sliced my arm open." She bit her lip to keep from crying out, still looking around. If something hurt Puck because of her she wouldn't be able to take it.
Puck kept his eyes out as he changed the material around her torn skin. "You have to be more careful Kitty," he directed. "I have to tighten it. You need to bite something to keep from screaming," he said, getting a little smile from his unintended joke. "Seriously though, you can't make a noise and it's going to hurt."
Kitty wasn't sure whether or not the fact that the boy could still be such a pervert even in this situation was a good thing or a bad thing. She pulled her knife and its sheath from her pocket and put it in her mouth, nodding to him after she took a deep breath.
Puck tightened the cloth around her slender arm, pulling away once it was finished. "You okay?" he asked, his eyes searching hers. His bare chest puffed out against the wind, but the wind was winning whatever silent battle was going on. Reaching down for his bat, he make a 360 circle and nodded. "You ready to go on?"
Kitty wiped a tear from her face and nodded, holding her arm close to her as she put the knife up. "I have on two shirts," she told him, putting her bat down and pulling her hoodie off. She looked over at him. "Do you want the hoodie or the tshirt?" she asked him, looking around warily.
Puck shook his head. "Keep it Kitty. It's only getting colder and a tshirt isn't going to do you much good," he said, turning away to look around them. "Let's go," he said, honestly hoping that walking would give him some sort of body heat.
Kitty didn't move as he walked off, pulling her tshirt off quickly and putting the hoodie back on. "It'll be a belly shirt on you," she said, tossing him the garment, "but I want you to wear it, okay?" She picked up her bat and pulled her hair out of the hoodie, looking around. "That truck," she said, pointing at it. "It's a Dodge. Surely it will work."
Puck took the shirt and threw it over his shoulder. He wasn't even going to try it. "We'll use it as your next bandage," he said with a shrug. As the two walked, Puck's eyes lit up as he spotted the truck. "Come on," he said, running ahead of her slightly. When he reached the truck, he opened the door and nodded for her to get in and try it.
Kitty hopped into the driver seat and turned the key, grinning at him when it rolled over and started up. "It works!" she told him, her eyes moving behind him and seeing two zombies running for them. "Puck, look out!"
Puck felt his head slam into the side of the door frame. Grunting, he turned around pushed one of the two zombies away and kicked at the other one. Slamming the door shut with Kitty inside, Puck picked up his bat and swung, connecting with the first zombies face. The second launched at him, causing him to fall backwards as he dodged it's attack.
Kitty swung the door open, hitting the first zombie and knocking him down. As Puck fought with the other one, Kitty quickly moved over to the one on the ground, hitting it repeatedly in the face with the bat until it stopped moving. She looked up, seeing more zombies approaching. "Oh no," she whispered, looking back at Puck and the zombie he was fighting.
Puck finally knocked the zombie to ground and beat it's head in. Looking over at Kitty, he looked at the truck and shook his head. "Get in and go," he said, hopping into the back. He knew there was a possibility of the zombies getting in with him, but he was ready- sort of. "Get in," he repeated, gripping the bat tightly as he waited.
Kitty hesitated, wanting him to get in with her but not arguing. She jumped back into the cab of the truck and pushed in the clutch, the truck jerking a little as she took off. It had been a while since she'd driven a stick and she was terrified...not a good combination.
Puck fell in the bed of the truck, rolling his eyes as the truck slowly chugged along. Puck watched as a line of zombies made their way for the truck. "Kitty," he yelled, standing back up slowly. "Go faster," he demanded.
Kitty mumbled several choice words under her breath as she did just that, pushing down on the gas while trying to dodge all the abandoned vehicles in the road. "Where am I going?" she yelled back at him, hoping he could hear her.
Puck turned around and looked into the back glass. Without thinking, he used it bat to bust out a small hole. "Just drive," he yelled into it. Puck sank down into the bed of the truck, wishing he was in the cab due to the coldness. He crossed his arms tightly over his chest and watched as the zombies chased them.
Kitty thought about stopping the truck just to yell at him but didn't, looking down at the gas hand. They were lucky, because the truck had plenty of gas. She turned on the heat, cranking it up as she drove, passing even more zombies. Wherever they'd been, it now looked like they'd decided to join the party.
Puck let his head rest against the truck, but lifted it after it bumped the metal a little too hard. Swallowing thickly, he knew they couldn't stop anytime soon. There were only the two of them and way more zombies than they could handle. Staring up into the sky for a moment, Puck took a deep breath. "Just let us be okay," he whispered before looking down.
Kitty kept driving, not even sure where she was going. She had no idea where the store was or the van or even the school. After a while she slowed down and pulled over to the side of the road, seeing no more zombies. She got out of the truck and ran to the back, looking up at him. "Are you okay?" she asked, climbing into the bed and running her hands over his shoulders and arms. His skin was ice cold. "You're not bitten, right?"
Puck rested against the back of the truck once more and nodded. His body felt number than before and he felt like walking would be impossible. He felt her hands on his skin, but the warmth wasn't enough. Shaking his head, he looked up at her and swallowed hard. "Don't think so. I think I'd rather be a zombie right now though," he said with a light chuckle. "Get back in and take me somewhere warm."
Kitty looked around them, seeing nothing but darkness. "Puck, I don't know where we are. And there's heat in the truck. Please get into the cab with me? I can't leave you out here like this."
Puck groaned as he stood up, his arms and legs stiff from the cold. Hopping out of the truck, he held out his hand for her, knowing he probably wouldn't be much help if she actually did fall. "We'll get back, don't worry about it Kit."
Kitty took his hand and jumped, landing with the gracefulness of a dancer. She pushed Puck towards the cab, wanting to get him warm quickly. When they were in she shut the door and turned the heat on full blast, looking around for a road sign or something. "Should I just drive back the way we came?" she asked him. She hadn't lived in Lima that long, but he'd been here his whole life. He'd know where they were.
Puck was thankful for the heat. Sinking into the seat, Puck looked around, unable to tell anything from the lack of scenery. "Let's keep going this way. I don't want to run into that crowd again," he said, referring to the zombies. As his body warm up, Puck felt the color return back to his cheeks. Reaching for the radio, he pulled back last second and frowned. There was probably nothing on anyway.
Kitty watched him. "I've done that three times," she told him. "It's weird to be in a truck with no radio." She continued to drive, the road turning to gravel. She sighed. "I think I've fucked up," she said, seeing no lights or buildings. "Think this is a driveway or something?"
Puck bit down on his lip. "I used to sing to myself just to hear some kind of music," he admitted. "My guitar- I smashed it." Raising up to look at the gravel road, Puck shrugged. "I say we keep going, see what's up here. Who knows? We might run into something valuable."
Kitty "I always liked your voice," she told him quietly as she drove, the tensions of the day making her stiff. She sighed in relief when the trucks lights shone on a house, looking over at him. "Think it's safe?" she asked him. "I can go check it out while you get warm..."
Puck smiled. "Did it make your lady parts tingle?" he asked playfully. "It was the only thing that got my through high school. Mr. Schue and Finn were like my personal dude Angels." Looking at the house, he shrugged. "You aren't going in alone. Maybe we can go in together, see what's in there?"
Kitty was glad he'd suggested it. She tried to be strong but she was scared to death and she wasn't sure how much more she could take together. Her arm throbbed and she worried that it was getting infected. "Dude angels," she repeated quietly. "That's fantastic. Today you were my dude angel." She looked at the house. "Let's go."
Puck got out behind Kitty and followed her up the steps. Smiling, Puck felt happy to have helped yet another person. Letting her lead the way, he made sure to cover their backs, not wanting another sneak attack to happen once more.
Kitty moved slowly through the house, jumping at every noise. When they'd gone through the whole building, she relaxed slightly. "It's freezing in here," she said, looking over at Puck. "Can we turn on the heat?"
Puck had felt the temperature change the second he'd walked into the house; it was almost as cold as outside. "Yeah, if it'll work," he said, honestly not sure if it would or not. Crossing his arms, Puck once again felt himself begin to shiver from the cold breeze.
Kitty walked to the thermostat and tried it, frowning when nothing happened. "No electricity," she groaned, looking over at him. "What do we do? Stay here? Try to find another house? Go back?" The girl desperately needed some guidance.
Puck took a deep breath. He'd never been the guy to the lead the group, but the look in Kitty's eyes told him it was time to change that. "We can stay until here dawn. We'll lock up the doors and sleep upstairs. Think you'll be warm enough?" he asked, looking at her through the slight darkness.
Kitty nodded, moving around to gather blankets. "I'll go through their cabinets and closets, see if they have anything I can clean my arm with," she said, handing him the blankets she had. "You should find a shirt and a coat...or something." She knew the chances of any medical supplies being left were slim to none but she had to look, anyway. She went through all the drawers, finding nothing. "Shit," she mumbled, climbing the stairs to look for Puck. "Where are you?" she called softly.
Puck nodded and made his way for the steps. To his surprise, he and Kitty made a pretty good team. Looking in all of the rooms, Puck was relieved to find a jacket. Sliding it on, he hugged it to his body, thankful for the warmth. Turning around, he looked at the open door and sighed. "In here," he called out, meeting Kitty at the doorway. "Find anything down there?" he asked, looking down at the place where her arm was hurt.
Kitty shook her head and then rested it on his chest. They'd always had a very odd relationship, but she was so grateful for him now she could cry. "Let's sleep, yeah?" she said. "Things will look better in the morning."
Puck wrapped his arm around her and nodded. They definitely couldn't get worse- well- they could, but he didn't want to think about it. "Yeah, you're right." Looking at the other rooms before looking down at her Puck smiled. "That room has the biggest bed. You should take that one. I'll take this one," he said, pointing to the room behind him. He wouldn't actually sleep, but he wasn't going to tell her that.
Kitty shook her head. "Sleep with me?" she asked. "And don't get any ideas, Puckerman," she added hastily. "Just sleep." The idea of being alone at all right now was terrifying. "Please?"
Puck rolled his eyes. "I'm not going to try and shag you in a strangers bed," he said with a grin. "But yeah, I'll sleep with you."
Kitty smiled to herself, climbing onto the bed and waiting for him. Once he was on it too, she spread the blankets over them and laid down, curling into him. "Thanks, Puck. For all your help today. I'd be dead if it wasn't for you."
Puck wrapped his arms around her, holding her close to him. Her warmth was a nice change and her company was definitely something he liked. "Don't thank me Kit. I was just being bad ass number wah," he said with a smile. "Get some sleep."
Kitty rolled her eyes at him before closing them, knowing it wouldn't take long for her to get to sleep. "Goodnight," she said softly before drifting off.
Puck held onto Kitty as he watched the door. "Night Kit," he whispered, knowing it was going to be a long night.
