I've been studying English since 2012, but never willingly, just because of "social pressure", it's not a language I like or want to know about the culture of the people who speak it. So much that for about 3 years I stopped consuming and practicing. I've always read and listened very well, but I'm not very good at talking. When I say "social pressure" it's that I'm doing chemical engineering and if I don't speak English very well, I can't get a job in the field and I can't do half of the things I want in my future profession. In addition to scientific articles, most are written in that language, there are posts, nNews, books that I would like to have and since I returned to study the language, I have to consume all of this in a language I don't like. I understand it's the universal language because it's more practical to learn and so maybe I can communicate with all cultures, but it's a boring language. There's the fact that as in Brazil you don't have many opportunities, going to another country “seems easier” and thus having to learn English to have better opportunities. Even here in bBrazil sometimes to get a good job it is necessary to speak a few languages for networking reasons and companies are always looking to expand to other places.
