Never-Fail Eco-Friendly Ant Bait Recipe 1 cup honey or frozen apple juice concentrate 1 cup water 1 tsp boric acid powder Heat water and boric acid powder in a glass or ceramic cup in the microwave, or an acid-proof pan on the stove. Bring to a brief simmer. Stir 'til boric acid dissolves. Add honey or apple juice concentrate and stir to mix. Let cool. Keeps for months, capped or covered. Drizzle bait where ants appear. Ants have trails that are marked by scent. Put the bait directly in their path. If kids or animals are at risk of sampling it, protect it with an overturned tin can or improvise a protective, but not ant-proof, enclosure. To reduce the mess, you can make a tiny dish of it with an upturned bottle cap, but drizzle the tiniest bit over the side so they can find it and get to it. Ants will not die immediately, but this is good. What they will do is eat the bait, then take it back to the hive and feed it to others, then all will die. Colony collapse! A few eggs may escape and hatch out and reappear in about two weeks. Just keep reapplying the bait whenever you see ants. You are unlikely to need more than two rounds. Boric acid powder is available in most US pharmacies and some Asian markets KB, 2 Apr 2013
