Persona redesign (2016-04-26)
Visually they look a little different as an Ikeda-Taenioides-like.
It's not just the recolor and the stripes. Notably they have ears and a nose now, as well as eyes that move around. Even if they do sense the world in the same way as before.
Their tail and its tip are functionally different, even if the visual aspect doesn't change much itself. Essentially the under part is just folded inside, just like on the arms and legs. We've seen that before but now the tail does it too. Functionally it acts less like a grasping hand now, and more like a meteor hammer, though the tip hides a stinger that can root into the ground. This was present in the original but it lacked its own strength, making it more of an aesthetic than a tool. Now it has a function, a sign that Val is learning an evolving.
There was some debate over whether Valentine was Girardia Tigrina or Schmidtea Mediterranea. Truth is he's neither, he's a common ancestor of both species. That's the product of the DNA experiments in his creation. This was eluded to in the plot but I think it confused people. We don't have a name for their theoretical ancestor in science, since we can trace both species back to the Cambrian explosion. You can basically consider him a hybrid of the two similar species.
And now for the part that's controversial. He's going to have some keteldic abilities. The new tail design kind of eludes to the keteld influence, even if the nose and ears are on the Ikeda as well. Some level of slime manipulation on his frontal parts, i.e. the usually yellow parts which are now grey, is going to be more present in his combat style. Again its something that was eluded to before. And there's one more keteldic thing to mention. Even though we've seen it in use already, his extreme stretching ability will be present. This is distinctly keteldic and Ikeda and not typical of flatworms, however the way it is done in Ikeda is very Duchess-like. They literally tear themselves up by overreaching, which is where the brown stripes actually come from. They are in fact a kind of scar tissue from repeated injury, even if they exhibit Duchess level healing abilities. Essentially Ikeda go all out on their healing prowess in the wild, and constantly test their limits by throwing caution to the wind, unlike Duchess who keep in their back pocket for when needed. I think that suits Val's personality very well don't you think?
