work in progress monday?

It's not sentences sunday or WIP wednesday, but I'm writing a time travel fic, so let's just pretend it's sunday or wednesday somewhere.

It was Henry's birthday last week, so I thought I'd share a snippet from a letter Henry writes to Alex at the beginning of my FirstPrince magical realism/time travel WIP. (I don't know if anyone can do Henry Fox's writing justice, but just indulge me. ;)

Alex, I’ve been reflecting on the first time we watched The Shawshank Redemption together. If I recall correctly, you said it was applicable because we’d finally escaped the prisons of our obligations. (In fairness, your word choice was likely a bit more crass.) “Hope is a dangerous thing.”  It's a line in the film that stayed with me. As you slept by my side last night, I couldn’t help but think about it. Of you, your warmth, and of spring.  For so many years, my birthday was another occasion when hope left me wanting. I’d blow out the candles and make wishes that would never come true.  And then there was you.  There hasn’t been a birthday I’ve spent with you that hasn’t been full of hopeful blooms, of bluebonnets and primrose growing in the garden. Even here, on the snow-covered peaks of the Rocky Mountains, I can’t help but think of evergreens.  You taught me that if hope is dangerous, well, maybe danger isn’t always such a terrible thing. Sometimes our lives need a bit of change to rattle us. I know now how terribly mine did. This wonderful, dreadful tour is nearly finished, as you know. And I hope to be back by your side soon, dreaming of the next chapters in our shared lives. The weeks have been endless, and my body aches for your touch. But then I think of your heart and it fills me with the warmth of the equinox. You care so much about everyone, love. Please do care for yourself, sometimes, too. I hope the branches on the cedar are slowly growing green.  I hope the sky is just as blue as I remember. I hope. Love, H PS. I feel like I've been yapping about this WIP ("Hug Alex Fic") for ages, but I recently started writing it after taking a long break from even thinking about it, and I guess I'm excited to see it slowly come to life. It's my first, true, multi-chapter story, and if life will cut me some slack, I hope to start sharing it soon-ish.

There are also some recently published FP fics that are simply wonderful. I'm thinking of starting a quarterly rec-list as a way to revamp my tumblr usage and help boost some visibility for the lovely writers in this fandom. (I'll also share Lamen recs, but I don't currently write for that fandom - yet.)

In the meantime, it's been truly lovely reading everyone's WIPs, stories, and getting excited for more FirstPrince. Please keep sharing, I promise someone is going to love what you write.
