so did anybody else think upon their first watch that the passenger was going to be a fight club reimagining, or was that just me? truly, for the first 2/3 of the movie I was waiting for the reveal that benson wasn't real. that he was randy's alter ego imaginary friend keeping him safe and giving him permission to do terrible violent things. his detachment at the beginning as a sort of omniscient patience. the wordless exchanges between them. the wild hair and fabulous wardrobe. the diatribes about the way the world works and how randy should or shouldn't fit into it. people's generally put-off response to him. the way he's always dragging randy back to the center of things. randy the self-sabotaging mild-mannered narrator for the new generation and benson the small town minimum wage repressed young man's tyler durden. I couldn't wait for benson to shift all the responsibility for the entire day back onto randy. for us to get to see randy holding the shotgun with benson nowhere to be found, randy mouthing off to marsha, randy beating the life out of sheppard. randy gunned down in the parking lot as his hold on reality dissolves. randy in the driver's seat all day long and the passenger side empty from the start.

#anyway............#this has been caught in the gullet of my brain for a very long time #if I was a better writer with more time and dedication I would bring this to life with my bare hands #but alas. i have other priorities #the passenger

I respect that NG is rly upset about this and I understand why but I’m literally only more happy and excited about GO2 now…. I was so nervous bc it’s diverging from the original canon and now it’s like. I will be devouring the entirety of it the day it airs.

And I normally hate spoilers but apparently there’s one ☝️ exception to that policy and it’s when something gay happens. That’s motivating to me….
