“You know, Dirk,” you start, but you find yourself at a loss for words. There’s something you want to say, need to say, but you can’t quite make it out, something deep in your chest that stays there no matter how you try and fish it out. When you don’t finish your sentence, Dirk prompts you with a quiet “Yeah?”

You sigh and twirl the phone cord around your finger, tilting your head. “Oh, I don’t know. Suppose I just wanted to say your name.”

Dirk huffs softly, a short laugh. “Don’t be queer like that, Jake. C’mon.”

 The year is 1986, and there's something in the spring air that makes things feel as though they are just the way they're meant to be. Dirk Strider and Jake "English" Harvey share a bad habit in skipping school to instead spend time together. As spring blossoms further into summer, so does their relationship into something new, something they don't quite understand fully.
