Note: I don't own the characters above. These are characters created by @allbeendonebefore appearing in @athensandspartaadventures and I'm just making silly comics with them. Ok?
In this new and *eXCitIng* page, we feature aph:Delphi (the one with the long hair) and aph: Thebes (the one with the curly hair), also known as the personifications of Delphi and Thebes respectively.
Both Delphi and Thebes are members of Hapo's "Men I never draw" team, so I decided to make a comic about them, so they won't feel alone. If I'm correct, Delphi appeared in two chapters for a brief cameo in both times, while Thebes hasn't made an appearance yet, but we know he exists, because he was one of the most important ancient greek city-states.
A few notes to understand the jokes:
Delphi is referring to Theodosius, a Byzantine Emperor, who shut down plenty of ancient greek temples and altars (including the Olympic Games), due to their association with paganism and during his time paganism=BAD, BAD, REALLY BAD, YOU'LL ROT IN HELL IF YOU WORSHIP THE PAGAN GODS!. The Oracle of Delphi was shut down in 393 AC or in 394 AC, never to be opened again. Delphi, of course, refers to those kind of followers. I guess that he'd predicted that (or had figured it out, considering how enigmatic the Pythian predictions could be) from Pythia or something (or I have completely misunderstood this character, because he's featured so rarely).
The page takes place somewhere in BC (doesn't matter when), so Thebes doesn't know about Jesus Christ. This makes me wonder: how did Ancient Greeks counted the years? 🤔 Did they start counting them after an important even in their religion or history (like after Zeus's birth or after the Seige of Troy?)? Anyways, I'm gonna look it up (Hapo, could you please enlighten us?).
I wanted Delphi to charge Thebes with an incredibly high price. But because I'm neither archaeologist nor historian, I chose a number by lack and a currency by luck. Without even double checking. I think I've enraged some archaeologists/historians who read my post right now (hope they won't be many). Guys, I'm terrible sorry, I study Politics and Economics in MODERN TIMES, not Ancient Greek history, next time I'm gonna do my research! Ok?
That's all I've got to offer! Hope you enjoyed my post and I have a lovely rest of your day (or a lovely noght, depending when you're reading it)! Bye! 😘
