Apodiformes Round 1: Violet sabrewing vs Crowned woodnymph
Violet sabrewing
Crowned woodnymph
Found in Mesoamerica, violet sabrewings inhabit humid montane forests, secondary forests, banana plantations, and gardens. They visit a circuit of flowering plants, including heliconia and banana, to feed. They tend to be dominant over other hummingbirds and will chase them away from food sources. They breed during the rainy season.
Gorgeous purple color, cute curved beak, all around adorable
Crowned woodnymphs live in Central America and northern South America, favoring humid forests and semi-open landscapes like coffee plantations. Both females and males defend territories, and females tend to be more aggressive.
