MacBook keyboard not working? This Fix has Worked for Millions
So recently my MacBook started having issues, nearly three years after. It happened when I was doing important work and was is not in any condition those days to afford the repair cost of Apple’s machine. So I started searching “MacBook keyboard not working” and other queries hoping to find a way to fix(just like you are) and saw a youtube video that had millions of likes and heart-melting comments. That solution made my day.
Do note that if this solution doesn’t work for you, chances are you are using MacBook that comes with the butterfly keyboard. As the name suggests, it’s just as delicate as a butterfly. In fact, grain could be disrupting your space bar or other keys to function improperly. But before taking your MacBook to the Apple support I recommend you try these methods below:
If you haven’t tried this fix yet, you may be very close to making your keyboard start working again. Also, some other solutions have helped others.
Reset PRAM
This is the solution that worked for me and helps whenever my MacBook keyboard is not working.
Shut down your Computer
Press the Power button, and instantly hold ⌘ + Option + P + R until you hear the Mac startup sound.
Mac will restart again and your Mac Keyboard will start working again.
If this didn’t solve your issue, don’t worry there are more options:
Reset Your SMC
The SMC is a chip found on intel based MacBooks. It is responsible for an array of small MacBook functions including keyboard back lightning, among many. Most of the times resetting the SMC solves MacBook issues.
Resetting the SMC depends upon which MacBook you have:
MacBook with a Non-Removable Battery
Plugin your MagSafe adapter
Shut down your MacBook
Press and hold down: Shift, Control, Option, and the power button
If your MagSafe adapter changes colour, you’ve reset the SMC
MacBook with a Removable Battery:
Shut down the laptop
Remove your battery and MagSafe adapter
Hold the power button for 10 seconds.
Disable FileVault
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Security & Privacy.
Click the FileVault tab.
Click the lock icon on the bottom left, then enter an administrator name and password.
Click Turn Off FileVault.
Upgrade macOS
Often times the issue resides in your mac operating system and Apple provides fixes for bugs in next updates. So, make sure your macOS is up to date.
To update;
Go to System Preferences > Software Update.
It’ll automatically start looking for updates. Just click Update now if it finds any.
Delete Recent App
Though rare. But, if your MacBook keyboard is not working after a recent app you installed, it may cause due to that app. If your keyboard does start working after deleting the app, and the app is important to you, make sure the app is updated. Also, consult the support section of the app and deliver your keyboard issues. Chances are you’ll get the solution.
Conclusion
Hope these solutions help you out. Just in case you are still having trouble with your keyboard, try this: use a can of compressed air and blow out any debris that might be interfering. If all fails, Apple support is your best option.
Apple Fitness+. the only Fitness App you need
New Post has been published on https://riverinter.net/apple-tutorials-guides/apple-fitness-the-only-fitness-app-you-need/
Apple Fitness+. the only Fitness App you need
What is Apple Fitness+ ?
Apple Fitness+ is the latest subscription-based fitness app by Apple. Amid the pandemic when people can’t hit the gym, the service can help you stay in shape. Apple fitness+ uses monitoring features of Apple Watch to guide you through the exercises while keeping track of your body’s response to your workout session.
What you’ll need?
Apple’s Fitness+ service is available on Apple Watch 3 or above, Apple TV, iPad and iPhone. It’s fine as long as you breathe in the Apple Ecosystem. For those who are not, you’ll be needing to expend on Apple devices, which I know don’t come cheap. But if you want a top of the line fitness training, with high-quality videos, motivation to keeping fit and more Apple Fitness+ setup can be a good one-time investment.
How it works?
The subscription gives you access to videos guided by health experts with charming accents, that take you step by step throughout the fitness class of your choice. The Apple Watch uses its sensors to monitor your blood oxygen level, and heart rate in real-time. You don’t need to lift up your wrist, as your Apple TV will show all the metrics on screen.
Workouts are distributed among 10 types; including treadmill run, treadmill walk, stationary bike, rowing, dance, strength training, core, yoga, high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and cool-down.
Does it require any equipment?
The best part is that you don’t need physical equipment in most of the training classes. Some exercises which require equipment can be substituted with equipment less workouts.
Is it Beginner-Friendly?
Simplicity is in the DNA of Apple. The Fitness+ provides a dedicated section for beginners featuring 10-20 minute long workouts, where some sessions may require light dumbbells, it’s possible to complete the beginner’s program without any equipment.
The main program is for both newbies and fitness fanatics. Each workout is performed by three instructors. One instructor hosts the class, the second instructor participates in the class and third is the trainer who shows an easy way to complete the routine. So in case, things get hard, you can go for easier moves.
The classes are mostly short. So there’s no 60-minute yoga class, in fact filtering for 30-minute classes shows few workouts.
What makes Fitness+ stand apart?
The tight integration of Apple Watch is possibly the best part about Fitness+. Not only does its sensors give an overlook of your health, including the calories burnt, blood oxygen levels and heart rate, it also connects your day to day workouts.
The dynamic instructors are also a strong feature providing a wide range of instructors aged 20 – 60 years. And the trainers use sign language in all of their workouts for people using a hearing aid.
The Apple Music service is free for Fitness+ users and the music is handpicked for each workout. You can even start a workout by selecting a music genre, which includes Latest Hits, Chill Vibes, Upbeat Anthems, Pure Dance, Throwback Hits, Everything Rock, Latin Grooves, Hip Hop/R&B, and Top Country.
How to Start using Fitness+?
You can get the Fitness+ app on your iPhone and iPad from the Appstore, and it comes preloaded on Apple TV. The app will show in a new tab on your existing Fitness app on your iPhone and iPad. You can remotely control the workout from your Apple Watch.
How it stacks up against Peloton?
One of the rivals of Apple Fitness+ is the Peloton Digital. Do note that Peleton studio is not a fair comparison as it requires equipment like treadmill and cycles that are closely integrated. Peloton Digital, however, is a subscription-based service like Apple Fitness+, and a better competition.
Similarities:
Equipment less, or lite equipment workouts with a simple dumbbell and mat.
Expert and agile instructors.
Videos shot in an exquisite studio.
Handpicked Music for max efficiency.
Yoga, strength, treadmill, and cycling workouts.
Dissimilarities:
Apple Fitness+
Offers additional workouts: high-intensity interval training (HIIT), core, rowing, dance, and mindful cool-down workouts.
Sound integration with Apple Watch and Activity Rings.
Only Available on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV.
Workouts are pre-recorded and can be downloaded for offline use.
Apple Music included in subscription.
Apple Fitness+ comes at $9.99 per month or $79.99 per year.
Included in Apple One Premier Tier subscription for $29.95 per month
Peloton Digital
Offers additional workouts: cardio, outdoor running, stretching, and meditation workouts.
Peleton does have an Apple Watch but with lesser integration.
Available on Android, Fire, TV, Roku, and Web.
Provides both pre-recorded and live interactive sessions.
Require internet connection.
Peloton Digital Membership comes at $12.99 per month
Family Digital Membership (All-Access): $39 per month
Conclusion
If you are an an Apple watch owner and have a slight interest in fitness, Fitness+ is must have. The tight integration of Apple Watch gives a whole new meaning to working out. By providing constant tracking of your inner happenings while doing workouts you get to know your body better, and what’s best for it. Alongside the motivating music, energetic instructors and mostly floor based exercise you might cancel out your gym membership and stay at home.
Why is Sleep Mode Better than Shut down for MacBook?
New Post has been published on https://riverinter.net/apple-tutorials-guides/why-is-sleep-mode-better-than-shut-down-for-macbook/
Why is Sleep Mode Better than Shut down for MacBook?
Being into Windows for decades; “Shut Down” was a ritual for reserving energy and keeping the computer unharmed. Back then sleep mode was never considered or taught. It was considered a sin! It’s until I switched to Mac that I knew Sleep Mode is a viable option. Set as default on machines, which is probably a one-time investment, faster, convenient, and more efficient.
So why Sleep Mode?
Sleep is advantageous in a plethora of ways. Firstly it uses very low energy and can help you get back to your tasks without waits. It only requires entering a password, if you have set one. Another good reason by experts tells that starting your Mac from the shutdown state takes a lot of energy, while in sleep mode everything stays open on very low power.
The reason Macs are responsive and fast is that it does system maintenance tasks in the background, like indexing files – which helps searching files swiftly – backup and a lot of other things. Mac does it at very low power in sleep mode. However, when you shutdown, Mac performs these actions while you are using it, and if it goes around it, it’ll hurt the performance.
Should I always keep my Mac in Sleep Mode?
If you are a typical Mac owner who regularly uses it, then it’s best to restrain from shutting down and stick with Sleep mode. Because, in this mode the battery drainage is unnoticeable, and you can get back to your work in a snap.
So No Shutdown?
However, if you are going to stay away from Mac for long then it’s best to shut it down. It might happen that you suddenly need your MacBook and find the battery drained.
Another reason to shut down your MacBook is when you are putting it inside its bag, because even though on a very low power state, it’s still a running machine, which could cause it to heat-up in hot climates.
Though the battery consumption is very low, it still occurs. In defence; it takes days or (weeks!!) for the device in sleep mode to drain a fully charged battery.
What about Restarting?
Mac apps can get a little slow due to lack of space on Ram which can accumulate a cluster of apps and files you don’t need over time. This could hinder your workflow. If you feel like your Mac is sluggish and you notice lags here and there, then a restart might help you clear up Ram and restore stability.
Are these modes harming your Mac?
Theoretically, every ‘running machine’ ravages over time. The same applies to MacBook, but with Sleep mode, it’s so low it barely affects the device. And in every way, normal usage causes more ravages than Sleep modes ever would. So there’s nothing to be tense about.
How to put your MacBook to Sleep mode?
If you own a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air you are already set-up with sleep mode i.e., close the lid for sleep mode. You can also click on the top left “Apple icon” and click on Sleep.

The 3 Best VPNs for Mac

The 3 Best VPNs for Mac
Mac is famous for providing bulletproof security. Apple fans find it an insult to have security software for their Macs. Where Apple VPN does stand up to its reputation of providing breakthrough security and privacy features, the cyber world is evolving and giving a tough time, even to Apple. While you may go without using an anti-malware or antivirus on your Mac, using a VPN is still something you should not neglect.
Why go for a paid VPNs for Mac?
There are many VPN service providers on the internet, both paid and free, where many free versions showing decent reviews are harmful and not able candidates for protecting your privacy.
Paid VPNs are also ideal for accessing and using your country-restricted services, like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, etc. The paid variants provide smooth video playback and better latency, where many free versions come with limited countries, provide low quality, and are unreliable.
When looking for a good VPN for your Mac, you should make sure the VPN also has an iPhone app. You can then kill two or more birds with one arrow as the subscription will include the protection of more than one device.
Top 3 VPNs for Mac
Whether it’s gaming, Netflix, or chill, these VPNs lead the list in providing top speeds, flawless streaming, and top-notch security and privacy.
NordVPN
EXCLUSIVE – CYBER DEAL NordVPN 2 Year US$3.71/mth NordVPN 1 Year US$4.92/mth NordVPN 1 Month US$11.95/mth
Go to Site
Claimed as one of the best VPN services, backed with research and comparison, NordVPN provides amazing features though it comes at a hefty price.
NordVPN takes the online anonymity business seriously by housing 5000+ servers in over 58 countries covering Asia, Europe, and some in India and Middle-East.
Speed
What makes NordVPN stand out in the crowd is its custom NordLynx protocol, which boosts connection speed and makes its more reliable, even with distant servers. Now it’s common for VPN servers to decrease your internet speed, but the latest results have shown that where other VPNs cut your speed in half, NordVPN declines merely 32% on average. Alongside this, it provides a flawless connection without interruptions or occasional dips.
Privacy
NordVPN goes beyond general privacy and security features. One of them is the *Double VPN*feature. Usually, when you connect to a VPN server, it encrypts your data; the double VPN adds a second server that adds another encryption, hiding your first VPN IP address with the second one. Other top features are Obfucscated, Dedicated IP, and more.
The interesting thing is that NordVPN is headquartered in Panama, and not what the branding may tell, which shows it’s from Nordic. Marty P Kanden, the CMO of NordVPN, in an interview with ZDNet, says that the company was inspired by Nordic ideals of confidence, trust, and innovation. And the branding reflects how they value their customers’ freedom of choice, how they strive to be innovative with their technology, and the way they work.

And the recent addition of Lightway protocol has increased speed and made it more reliable than before. Tests from VPNMentor and top bench-markers show ExpressVPN the fastest VPN there is.
Privacy

The Bad

Surfshark

Surfshark is a newcomer in the market but lives among the top VPN service providers. Released a few years ago, Surfshark has shown brilliant test scores in multiple tests. The most vital point of Surfshark is its affordable price, which doesn’t compromise on features. The VPN provides advanced functions at half the price of its competition. The service provider has 1600+ servers across 63 countries in over 160 locations.
Speed
SurfShark gives full WireGuard support. It provides high downloading speeds, instant connections, and more. The speed check by Restoreprivacy.com shows SurfShark as one of the fastest VPNs in the world.
Privacy
SurfShark owns a private and secure DNS in its server, preventing anyone from tracking you online. Like NordVPN, SurfShark has a Double VPN feature that makes it even tougher to track your online activities.
The Good
Based in Virgin Islands outside of surveillance alliances
Unlimited devices with one subscription
Low cost
The Bad
Lack of phone support
Kill switch issues
Why use a VPN?
Where Anti-malware protects you locally, VPN encrypts your online data, the data going from your Mac. Because once the data enters the web world, it no longer deems important how secure your Mac is.
VPNs are also seasonally picked out of the bag when you can’t access sites restricted in your region or when your government blocks your favorite game.
Although there are more reasons which suggest you use a VPN regardless of when you need to bypass restrictions. VPNs help hide your private activities like torrenting, streaming and also prevent identity theft. VPN servers protect the ingoing and outgoing data from your Mac by creating a security layer that helps you use Public Wifi safely.
Conclusion
There is an ocean of VPN service providers in the market, with more coming rapidly. Companies are trying to take over their competitors by bringing faster and more secure online experience for their users. Providing industry-leading VPN service and yielding high results in nearly any task, the above mentioned have been topping the VPN list for years and expected to maintain their future position.

Why is there an orange dot after upgrading to iOS 14?
There’s no need to panic because the Orange Dot is not a glitch; neither is it a bug. It just shows how serious Apple is about users Privacy.
The latest iOS 14 update from Apple comes with tons of new features and overhauls as well. Some portions of it are there for security purposes. And that’s where your concern gets the answer. The orange dot you see appears when someone, or some app, is accessing your iPhone’s Microphone.
Now it’s not always a sign for you to stop talking. Apps like Whatsapp, Skype, Google Meet require your Microphone for proper functionality. So in such situations, the orange dot is fine.
Similarly, a Green dot appears at the top when your mobile’s camera is in use, for instance, during Skype video calling, or WhatsApp camera capturing and so on. Again, in such situations, you cannot do anything to the green dot. So there’s no need to worry about. These apps require your camera to function.
iOS 14 green dot = Camera in use
However, there are cybercriminals/hackers on a lookout for privacy infiltration, and orange and green dots are great security features if such an event occurs.
Apple says that Privacy is a fundamental human right, and it’s one of Apple’s core values. It says that the devices are essential in many parts of life, what we share from those moments, and who we share it with, should be our choice.
We design Apple products to protect your privacy and give you control over your information. It’s not always easy. But that’s the kind of innovation we believe in.
