I sent Apple an email asking them to REMOVE the U2 album from my purchases.
They sent me THIS as a response:
Dear [Name],
Welcome to iTunes Store Customer Support. My name is [Employee-who-didn't-read-your-request].
I understand that you have noticed that you have U2-songs of innocence on your iTunes Store account and you would like to downloaded it on your device. I realize how important it is for you to download this album. I will be glad to assist you with this issue.
[Name], today, Apple added the latest U2 album ("Songs of Innocence") to the Purchased page of every iTunes Store customer, worldwide. This is a free content which has been added for promotional purpose to your account. I would like to clarify again that this would not be charged to you but this is a free content and you can download the album or hide the album if you do not want your account to reflect the content. The link below will help you to download the free album using iTunes in the Cloud.
Yep. I asked them to REMOVE it from my account. They acted as if I wanted to download that garbage. They acted as if downloading it was important to me.
WTF, did you even READ my email? I don't care if if it's free. DO NOT PUT IT ON MY ACCOUNT PERIOD.
Would you force all of your customers to take a Rush Limbaugh audiobook and then say "well it's free" as an excuse? Of course not... Actually I'd rather have a free Rush Limbaugh audiobook than U2 but that's beside the point.
The issue is... I ask you to remove it and you act like "oh we see you want this album."
