I respect your choice to not fix the racism in your story. These things don’t get abolished by one big event irl nor do they go away overnight. It seems to me your story is more about living in a racist world and learning to navigate it while not letting it crush you. And that’s a very relevant and important theme. I for one am interested to see how Cedar and Shelly grow.

Yes, you got it exactly! :D FYR is absolutely about learning how to navigate, survive, and thrive in a racist world. I don't know how to fix racism irl, so I won't lie to my audience that there really is some sort of magical solution I can just pull out of my pocket to fix our own world.

To fix the racism in FYR would be to make it a useless allegory, imo.
