It really hasn’t been my month to write. Grrr. Currently have a headache that is on day two. I did cold compress, hot compress, Aleve, lots of water, a little caffeine and nothing seems to be fixing my noggin. So yeah, no writing tonight.
Here’s Valentine burrowing in her pile of packing paper. To distract us from the horrors.
Tonight I’m resting. I have a mild sore throat and feeling drained. Might watch a movie, or just go to bed as soon as I’m done looking after the cats/house I’m at for the weekend. Jammies on, mind dreamy, body heavy.
Having three part time jobs is a really great way to procrastinate on writing. In case you’re looking for a fresh excuse and want to earn some income simultaneously. I’ll be rotating my OCs in my head tonight. 😅🫠😑
Listen, I may have gone overboard on creating a D&D character, but I regret nothing. Hopefully I’ll tune back into working on my novel now that I’ve got that out of my system.
Sometimes you get invited to a D&D one shot and have to create a character with a backstory and a creature companion and explain how he meets a friend, and like their entire personality and it’s fun.
I feel like I’m cheating on my novel. 😬
Babies first D&D character is just too exciting to do it half-assed, so I’m putting both my cheeks into it!
I think I would have written more tonight but I got rained on. I’m not even mad about it, I LOVE rain. 🤍🩵💙 (As I type this Valentine is trying to eat the string ties on my pajama pants. Girl no.)
🌈March Stats ⭐️
Days I wrote: 20/31
Daily word count low: 100
Daily word count high: 1,687

Did I finish my first draft of my novel? Nope. 🚫📑 Very rude of me tbh.
I’ve been chipping away at this first draft for six months. 😮💨
I have 323 handwritten pages to transcribe! But that is a problem for future me.💀
☔️April Writing Goals! 🪻🌷🪻🌷
Finish revising a short story tomorrow (which is today because it’s already April 1st). 😅
Get a new notebook and decorate it, my current one is nearly full. 📓
Write often & take days off as needed. ✍️➕😴🟰☺️
Finish the first draft: 28,000 words to go. The finish line is constantly moving. 🏁
I can’t wait to take a month off from writing, brain tired… but I must get to the end of this first draft! Fingers crossed for a writing respite in May! 🤞
Please forgive the abundance of emojis, it’s helping me stay silly in the face of the horrors. also it’s 2AM-ish ♥️🖖
Wanted to hit 1k, but there was no juice left in my brain battery. I just really want to finish this first draft sooo bad and I think it’s got good stuff that’s coming together - I’m also trying to stack up some of the tension and horror elements - that’s proving challenging. I also want a nice fluid pace and for the reader to care about the characters. I suppose all of these elements are obvious in a compelling story but like - I’m putting my whole heart into it.
I finished a novel once before - but that one feels like a shadow of what I’ve done here effort wise and I wasn’t as practiced at writing.
Just musing on this whole first process. Shall I ever be as prolific as Stephen King and Joyce Carol Oates? Probably not but I do want to be as compelling and unique as Stephen Graham Jones and Susanna Clarke!
Flashbacks are weird, but they do serve the story… It’s just strange to know a character as an adult and then reverse engineer how they became who they are. I think for my next writing endeavour I will make myself do an outline.
The novel I’m working on started off with a single scene and the rest of the story just kind of oozed out. I had intended it to be a short, but nope. It’s a novel and must be fed.
