a slow-burn, long-fic that’s honestly gotten completely away from me at this point. Chapter 20 is now POSTED!

“Is that what happened to you?” Emmett asks, finally relenting, and being pulled toward the water by the siblings.

She chuckles and pushes her hair off her shoulders. “More or less.”

“Oh, good.” Sarcasm drips like honey from his voice.

Preview:

A mix of blood and saliva splatters against the slate gray floor. Emmett holds his jaw, the pain smarting across his skin, and stares down his opponent.  He pokes his lower lip with his tongue and the metallic, coopery taste fills his mouth. The crowd vibrates with excitement. Their hum nearly the same vibrato of the generators that surround them. They’re like a hive of deranged, bloodthirsty bees.

His muscles ache and groan in protest – begging him stop – but he knows he can’t. To stop means to die. He made a promise to himself. He wouldn’t let these people defeat him. He would find a way back home.

“I can’t trust anyone else with this.” She shakes her head, blonde strands curling around her ears, and brushing against her cheekbones. “It’s going to take three days to reach Mercy General and I need to ensure the correct supplies are brought back.”

His fingers tighten around the list, paper crinkling.

“You’re not going alone, are you?” 

“I was…” She gently takes the list from his hands, her heartbeat thundering through her veins with strange, restless energy. “I was hoping you’d join me.”
