-Michele Mikesell, Oil and Enamel on Canvas This group of works immediately captured my interest. As a whole unit, the works gave off an eerie unsettling mood that I hope one day to be able to recreate in my own work. Each canvas displayed one unusual portrait of a creature caught somewhere in-between being a monster and being human, each with a body that was uniquely distorted. By stepping close to the wall and looking at each canvas on it’s own the viewer is able to sense the figure’s isolation and solidarity within the confines of the intimate little box. When stepping back the feeling of isolation morphs into a feeling of unity as the small little canvases combine to form a community of interacting characters. The color palette plays soft pastel blues and pinks against harsh blacks. -Post by Sam Hansen
Let's talk about Aqua! This was by far my favorite show that we were able to see in Miami. I saw a lot of great art but I was also really impressed with the show's layout. Each hotel room was cleared out of all of its furniture and occupied by one Gallery. This made it much easier to digest the work; you were able to focus in and absorb one artist at a time, giving room to breathe. The walls weren't over cluttered with work. Also the color scheme of the venue was lovely. Cool blue tones throughout made for a very calm viewing experience. -Post By Sam Hansen
