Name: Aralosaurus tuberiferus

First Described: 1968
Described By: Rozhdestvensky

Aralosaurus is an early derived Lambeosaurine known from the Bostobe Formation in Kazakhstan, dating back to about 85.8 million years ago in the Santonian age of the Late Cretaceous. It had a distinctive arch on its snout which lead scientists to believe that it was a Saurolophine hadrosaur, however later research found that it was one of the most early derived Lambeosaurines, and that this nasal horn was one of the earlier Lambeosaurine crests. It is known from an incomplete skull though it is estimated to have been approximately 8 meters long and 2.6 meters high at the hips. It had nearly 1000 teeth, allowing for complex chewing as in other hadrosaurs. Its crest may have been used for ramming such as in today’s rams and goats, or just for visual display. It had a thick tail and bulky body, like other hadrosaurs, making it a very powerful animal.
