And lastly (the one Vi struggled with the most), he must respect women, parents, and his nation's law.

When Vi admitted she (somewhat) struggles with the last rule, she immediately receives not-so-subtle dirty looks from her fellow cowboys. You see, Vi stood out more than the others did. In more ways than one. For example—she’s a woman. Some of the folk round’ here didn't believe in cowgirls. Not that she blamed them, given their date of birth, but c’mon. She had the right to react to blatant hate crimes! S’not like she's squaring up with em’—it’s merely witt. Her words are less than what the average person would say. So they best give credits where it’s due.

Vi, also, is practically the only openly gay cowboy in her town. It's only inevitable that she had some troubles with the parents. She respected women. That part was easy. Same for her nations laws. And, well… she respected the parents of her ex situationships–for all it’s worth. But as she liked to say; “you get what you give.”

They wanna be passive aggressive? Two can play that game.

So, yeah. She had some things to work on. But this? Oh, man. She almost felt like she was bein’ set up.

Your father had asked her to help you with some handiwork. And, of course she agreed! Training a newbie is no problem. Never has been. Training you, however? That’s a whole thing in itself.

Vi’s house, as always, seemed familiar to you. The house you had been coming and going to since childhood, the PlayStation wars, the junk food-filled house, was part of your and Vi’s friendship. Jinx was Vi’s younger sister. She was someone who stood out at school but didn’t really get close to anyone. She was a bit chaotic, a bit careless, but somehow everyone was interested in her. You had always been curious about Jinx—maybe a little too much. But Jinx didn’t usually seem to care much about people.

There was silence for a while. When you saw Jinx was still looking at her phone, you decided to say something to start a conversation.

“How’s school going? Lessons and stuff.”

Jinx looked up and looked at you with a slightly raised eyebrow. It seemed like she couldn’t make sense of the question. Finally, she shrugged nonchalantly.

“The usual. Boring.”

Jinx’s nonchalant tone made it clear that she wanted the conversation to end quickly. You glanced at her for a moment longer, but Jinx had already turned her attention back to her phone.
