Everyone’s talking about how a demon makes itself look beautiful to trick people and an angel makes itself look scary to ward off evil, and they’re saying Viktor is the demon and Jayce is the angel, but I’d like to raise another point

Sky, or the Hexcore posing as Sky, is the devil, and Viktor is the human being tricked

Furthermore, this is the angel and Jayce is the human that listened to it

viktor creating the hexcore, but it’s not to save his own life like in the show. here, he’s doing it in an attempt to save jayce’s life. he’s not just creating a hextech that can evolve and adapt. he’s trying to create a new artificial heart for jayce. one that will be able to replace his dying one and keep jayce alive.

the heart is often considered to be the “core” of the body. so the hexcore is literally intended to be a new artificial core for jayce’s body.

Viktor your back!!!!! How have you been? How is Jayce? What are you guys working on these day? We have missed you so much.

Jayce and I have been… through quite a bit. My health deteriorated rapidly while I was working on the Hexcore. I experimented on myself with — I am to understand — irrational fervor. My assistant, Sky, discovered a missing component of the runic lattice which caused matricial instability. The Hexcore was… resistant to rework and thus had to be dismantled.

It was kept in isolation, deprived of its feedback loop with me, for several weeks. This was an unpleasant process for all involved. We then created apparatuses, controllable from a distance, which introduced varying inconsistencies to its energy lattice. We discovered conflicting frequencies and opposing magical signatures destabilized its internal harmony. However, as a highly adaptive… mind, the Hexcore had to be prevented from reconstitution at its weakest moment. The process was a delicate process of experimentation and improvisation, for the more we tested its vulnerabilities, the less vulnerable it became.

The Academy was abandoned the set day of its demise, except for Jayce and Sky. I was not permitted on the grounds, but I orchestrated much of the protocol for that day. No lives were lost thanks to outside implementation of that protocol.

I am ashamed to admit I was forcibly sedated that morning. I woke early and attempted to stop my own plan, to dismantle the matrix by myself. I still believe that I ought to have been the one put at risk, for I introduced it to the world, but logically… logically, of course, my relationship with the Hexcore too compromising to the success of the endeavor. Jayce stopped me from entering the lab… and then I awoke in our apartment the next morning next to him. Even now, I sometimes think I hear… well, I do not think this is the end of communication with the Arcane, for any of us. And I do not doubt I will long for it daily until I die. Perhaps this is… too dark a story for your bright welcome back. But it is what we have been, eh, “up to.” We are back to implementing clean energy for Zaun. I am in physical therapy after another spinal surgery. I am taking steroids for my lungs and musculature while they search for a long-term solution to my conditions. I am not yet ready to rebuild a stabilized Hexcore. I am not sure if I should.
