Dang it's been awhile since I've drawn Prince Arctic. He's still my fav WOF character tho~ A long time ago I did a pen sketch of Arctic doing animus magic with swirls like this, but this one looks way cooler imo. I think it turned out really well!

Well shoot, I just finished this vent art of Prince Arctic and I was all ready to type about it and now I can't decide what to put here!

Oh well XD

Basically I've been feeling like Arctic a lot lately, lots of stuff hasn't been going well in my personal life, I've been treated badly by people I thought were friends, there's been a lot expected of me in various ways, and overall I've been having trouble sleeping due to the stress.

Arctic's life was a lot like that too. Like so much is against you that it feels like you are drowning. So I wanted to make a piece that represents that sort of feeling. I did an underwater scene, with Arctic reaching out towards the surface as he sinks down. In the books it shows that Icewings can swim, I imagined him to be in the cold, northern ocean or something. Where the water is super deep so it is very dark.

I really liked the way the sketch and flat colors turned out too, I'll probably upload them too if anyone wants to see.

So since Arctic is my favorite Wings of Fire character and I draw him so often, I figured I should just go ahead and make a proper ref sheet for him :) I'm very pleased with how this turned out! Also want to give thanks to Saebira on deviantart for the critiques and help with anatomy! Name: Arctic Gender: Male Tribe: Icewings Ranking: First Circle Age: 15 or older at death (23 in human years) We know this because of a few things. First, dragons reach maturity at age 7. So Arctic had to be at least 7 when he ran away with Foeslayer and had his dragonets. Next, Darkstalker was 7 when he was put under the spell, and dragon eggs take 1 year to incubate. So that means 7+8= 15. However, I personally headcanon that Arctic was 10 years old when he ran away, which is about 20ish in human years. That would put his age at death around 18, or 26 in human years. Description: “His scales were polished white with hints of pale blue, but not as shiny as she’d (Clearsight) expected. He looked sort of … scuffed, as though he needed to go roll in some snow to clean off. Sick of losing my patience Out of time, lacking rhythm Barely conscious, oversensitized Feeling weaker as I stumble around Get out of my mind Get out of my mind... -Low Roar, Patience https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxTHITr2kJw&list=PL3S7mkbs5hnCn3Mipxq6_gvyQHJeXEwri&index=6 Prince Arctic is kind of my new go-to character for vent art XD; I just relate to him a lot honestly...I feel really bad for him, stuck in a place he hates, with no friends and a bad climate, where he can't even sleep at a normal time. He only has one person in his life he cares about, but his animus magic has changed his disposition and made him irritable and depressed, straining their relationship. I think that if I didn't actually take medication for my depression and ADD that I would be a lot like him. Sometimes on bad days I'm even snappy to the people I love most, I don't mean to do it and I feel bad afterwards, but in the moment I can get very hurtful and angry. Arctic is that way too. Only for him, there's no medication, there's no way to get better. And he can't even have privacy inside his own mind, due to his son Darkstalker's mind-reading powers. In the book, he's often seen telling Darkstalker to 'stay out of my head.' But of course, Darkstalker doesn't. Also, Darkstalker constantly toys with Arctic emotionally, by doing things like bringing him prey that reminds him of his old home. With all of these things stacked on top of each other, no wonder Arctic lashes out so much. He can't get away, he's trapped in the Night Kingdom, because even after all the bad things he doesn't want to give up the one thing that ever made him happy: Foeslayer. But even deep love can't overpower a mind wrecked by both animus magic and daily, mundane life. ------ For the art itself, I did this in ballpoint pen like most of my pieces, but my camera wrecked it when I tried to photograph it, so I messed around in Photoshop with some filters and came up with this.
