Do you have a pattern for these? Or really even just some advice for including the nose wire? I have some fabric and passable sewing skills but the patterns I've used so far have turned out less than ideal for long term wear. Also, love the fabric choice!
I cut 2 8x9″ squares (one print, one plain white) and sew together top and bottom on the 8″ ends, wrong sides together.
Turn right side out, and sew the channel for the nose wire along the top edge. Fold a pipe cleaner in half, and thread it through.
Pin the pleats, sew them in place down one side, topstitch across the bottom, sew down pleats on the other side.
Then I cut two 2.25″x4″ rectangles to bind the sides. For each piece, pin right sides together even with the side edge of the mask, fold top and bottom edges level with the top and bottom of the mask, sew 3/8″ seam, then fold raw edge, flip and sew to the back of the mask. You can topstitch this into place, but I’ve been handsewing them with the same stitch I’d use to bind a quilt because I like it better.
Leave the top and bottom of the side binding open, so you can thread the ties through -- I’m using twill tape, but shoelaces also work fine.
I’ve been hand washing mine in the sink in hot water and laying flat to dry, without any issues.
also, thanks! Two of those fabrics are left over from skirts I made, and I did save one of each for myself so I can wear them as sets.
