I just learned that Ruth means mercy and what that means for my character who named herself Ruth Les.

Oh to want to be strong and live out your inner edgy girlboss fantasies, except what spurned you on to make the jump from fantasy to reality is the you needed to become strong for the child you rescued from abuse.

An act of mercy was what made you willing to become ruthless against anyone who would hurt her.

Ruth lives up to her name more than I expected. She lives up to her name more than she knows. Because when she was brought in to help experiment on a child she decided to actually help the child instead.

Types of Magic (in my world)

Natural Magic

This type of magic is the easiest to use, but very rare. It usually manifests as a particular supernatural ability, and requires no training or preparation. Natural magic is also chaotic, and the hardest to control.

Examples of users: Most super powered people

Borrowed Magic

This type is moderately easy to both use and control, and more common than natural magic. The user either borrows power from a magical creature or draws energy from a magically charged object. Forming a pact requires some preparation to contact a magical creature and diplomatic skills to strike a good bargin.

Examples of users: Magical girls, summoners, channelers, people using religious based magical systems

Structured Magic

While it’s the hardest to use, anyone could practice this magic with enough practice. It works by drawing magic from the environment with various rituals. Using this magic requires extensive knowledge of the magical system being used and plenty of preparation, but when cast properly, it’s very precise and controlled.

Examples of users: Alchemists, Hermetics, people using secular magic systems.
