For Ariel/Jim/Jane!

Sarah Hawkins (Jim's mother) finds the whole thing a bit confusing. She can't say she's ever heard of people being in a three-person relationship and is a bit confused how it all even works. But Delbert's curiosity regarding the entire thing has helped her get used to the idea - she's too polite to ask all these natural questions someone might have, but Delbert's passion for knowledge makes him ask all types of questions, even slightly inappropriate ones.

In fact, Delbert and Archimedes have bonded over the knowledge of polyromantic and polysexual relationships though Archimedes had more knowledge on the subject than Delbert had. Archimedes' wife, Jane's mother, was in fact poly as well and while Archimedes and Sheena were never in a permanently poly-relationship, they did occasionally bring a third person to their relationship just for a while. So Archimedes wasn't shocked when his daughter entered a poly-relationship.

Archimedes loves both Ariel and Jim and always has questions for them both about mermaids and aliens. He is, as usual, very loving, supportive and even has some pride flags and a t-shirt - and he's more than happy to educate ignorant people if needed.

Triton, on the other hand, is per usual not happy with his daughter's choices. He couldn't care less that Ariel is also in a relationship with a woman, that doesn't matter whatsoever, but them both being human AND that there's two of them and just one mermaid, that he doesn't care for. However, he learned a long time ago that Ariel was going to swim against the stream if that was what she wanted to do and has never tried to convince her to leave the relationship. And both Jim and Jane seem like decent people, so he keeps his opinions to himself and just hopes his daughter won't get hurt.

Jim is... ok with Triton, he likes Archimedes more. Archimedes does make him uncomfortable sometimes though, he's a little too eccentric and nosy to his liking. But so is Delbert, so Jim is used to it. He'd rather be left alone with Archimedes than Triton at least.

Jane likes Sarah just fine, they can have a good conversation over some tea and bond over being concerned about Jim's irrational behavior sometimes. Jane is good at calming Sarah's worries and explain that despite Jim doing lowkey dangerous stuff sometimes, like his riding solar surfer, he's very good at these things and he's therefore not in any real danger. Jane and Ariel have joined Jim solar surfing sometimes and Jim is undeniably good at it. He likes to do some stunts, but he's always calculating what he's doing to make sure it's safe.

Ariel absolutely adores Archimedes and is always excited to hear him talk about pretty much anything. He's funny and has a thirst for knowledge just like Ariel has. She likes Sarah a lot too though. Ariel barely remembers her own mother, but she has a feeling that Athena and Sarah are similar, so she can't help but seek out her company whenever she's nearby. And to Sarah, Ariel almost feels like a daughter. She likes Jane too, of course, but to her Jane is the one she would trust her son with whereas Ariel seems to share Jim's need for adventure and a bit of danger. She trusts Jane to keep them both in line.
