-ark ships
-running away from an earth that's become thoroughly uninhabitable by horrors beyond their comprehension
-the horrors keep haunting them even in space
-one of their leading figures ends up crippling the entire ship and almost killing everyone
-as far as they know they're the last remnants of humanity
-they spend most of the story trying to fight the horrors through whatever means possible
-there's fucked up biotech involved
-end up in symbiosis with them despite everything
children of time and knights of sidonia are weirdly similar stories if you only look at the human-pov parts
